I was thinking back on when and how this gun collecting bit started for me.
If I had to reach waaay back I guess it all started when I was a little kid watching old westerns and such. Of course as kids we wanted to play out those movie
scenes. Our Parents did buy us various cap guns over the years with which we slayed one another.
My first real introduction to firearms was when I joined the Coast Guard in 1987. Boot camp qualifications with the M16 and Beretta. Later as boarding team
member after I was assigned to my cutter, qualifying with the M1911 and Wingmaster. I remember being intimidated by the shotgun - fear of the unknown I
suppose.
While in the service we had opportunity to buy guns through the commissary system. I was stationed in Alaska at the time and my civilian friends begged me to
please get THEM a great deal on Ruger .44 Magnum Super Redhawks (a gun that apparently every self respecting Alaskan must have).
I bought myself a Ruger P90 Auto since I was already familiar with .45s.
My first C&R was bought at my first attendance to a gun show after I was returned to civilization at my next duty station in Chattanooga Tennessee.
It was a Chinese SKS with a brown painted stock for $70 if memory serves.
I quickly fell into collecting semi-auto C&Rs but my interests have morphed many times since then.
How did the "BUG" get a hold of you?
Tell me about it...

. Anyway, I
loved the expierence(s) and knew I loved shooting... Fast forward to when I was about 15, I was watching a show on the history channel about Mosin Nagants- and
one guy said "they're ugly- but robust guns." Now, I'm not the one to stand for eliteism- So I was determined to get one
someday. I felt (and still feel) that they are quite elegant in their own right... That someday came soon when I realized Big 5 had them for sale! I begged my
dad- and he agreed to buy one for me. Mosin's weren't on sale- so instead I looked at (and fell in love with) a Czech 98/22 that was on sale
for $99. From then on- I was hooked and I'm happy to report I still have that Mauser.... and an arsenal of other milsurps
