I put together a Winchester on a stripped receiver from the CMP about a year and a half ago so I am letting everyone else have their chance at these.

They would have caught my interest a little more if there was a chance that some would have correct barrels, but Orest said those rifles would be culled out and sold at a later date. Heck I've had a service grade on order through the CMP for almost 2 months now. They are a great program no doubt, but their prices are starting to get out of my range. That and I have 5 M1' already... no winchesters though.

I have a couple of Winchester Garands and figured there would be quite the feeding frenzy over these. Kind of like over all guns and guns stuff right now. I saw on the CMP website forum that they had something like 5000 pieces of mail that Monday. Wow. There will be some disappointed people. Glad it won't be me.

Back then they were about $200 more than the SA's as well. Considering the relatively small number of Winchesters made, with all of them built during WWII, I do not think the price is that bad. Especially when you compare it to show or Gunbroker pricing. If I had not built my own I would have a order in that pile right now. It sounds like a lot of people were looking for correct barrel Winchesters at the current price. Not going to happen.

Springfield Armory:………………………………..4, 188, 669 Winchester:……………………………………………513, 880 Harrington & Richardson:…………………………...428, 600 International Harvester Corporation:……………….337, 623 Grand Total (all manufacturers): (approx.)………5, 468, 772 My old SG Winchester (sold) was 550 in 2005ish and SG SA's were $495. $65 or so more for a Winnie. Now its $200 more than a SG SA. I'd say they played the Winchester hysteria very well. More power to them. They are there to make money and promote shooting. Just not for me. If I NEED another M1, it will be another H&R. Everytime someone pinged Orest on CMP forums for Winchester pricing, numbers, availabilty, ect, Im sure in the back of their mind the price went up.
