Yugo in the nice well made brass case, Albanian also brass cased, and Bulgarian brass cased. See a pattern there? Yugo is almost impossible to find but when I
see it I buy the hell out of it. I have heard too many times that sources claimed to have one of the above and in actuality have something lesser so I buy most
ammo in person and inspect it closely. I am not a mail order ammo buyer anymore period! Bill

My rifles seem to prefer 147-8gr ammo, and my shoulder does too! Russian copper washed, Polish copper washed, Albanian brass cased, and Czech copper washed, or
lacquered. I know that's four, but those are my favs. I shoot the ammo in my four M39s, three M91s, two 91/30s, one M27, and my SVT40 gets Wolf, which is
not milsurp ammo, but is not corrosive ammo either. I can't believe how expensive this ComBloc milsurp ammo has gotten!

1960's dated Chinese light ball most accurate and extremely consistent lot to lot. Nothing else has come close.

timbo762, where can I find Chinese Light Ball 7.62x54r? I thought Chinese stuff (military caliber ammo) was still banned from import.
I like the CZ silvertip stuff I've been using but then I haven't a lot of experience with other makes, other than Winchester metric and some Russian stuff that was pretty dirty. What all is still out there? Eli

The last place that I found it was from Sportsman's guide. It was identified as Albanian. The Albanians had connections with China and some of the ammo
that came from Albania was Chinese. It is easily identified by the type of "tin" it comes in. See www.7.62x54r.net, ammo section, for pics of
packaging. Regards.

Thanks NotPC, I'd forgotten about 'Albanian' ammo and after all that fuss about that Florida munitions contractor supplying the stuff to service
Afghan forces... well I don't know how I did but there it is.

I really liked the Czech silvertip that was common and cheap years ago. Some folks had sticking cartridge problems with it but I never did. It was not the most
accurate I ever shot but did well enough to win some rifle competitions in my 43 Sako M39.

I really can't say. Seems everytime I take a Mosin Nagant to the range, it is a different one, and I simply grab what ammo is the easy to grab. May be
Czech silver tip, Hungarian, or Bulgarian, or whatever else is in the collection. I have never tried any of the Albanian ammo, however, so I can't comment
on that. I am not the type of person who insists on good accuracy. If I did, I would get into hand loading my own. But for what has been available on the
milsurp scene, as long as it goes bang, that is all I am worried about. But I can definately say the WORSE I have ever shot was some Czech stuff that was not
the silver tipped stuff. It shot good, but every round needed the bolt to be beaten open with a 2X4! And that was in every single M-N rifle I owned at the
time, which was about six.

Albanian. It produces a great muzzle flash in short barreld Mosins which is a bonus.

I have a good stock of both Czech Silver Tip and the PRVI brass case light ball, both are excellent for eastern block surplus.
For just plain old shock & awe you just can't beat Hungarian Yellow Tip in an M38.
