Incidentially, the lack of effective aimed fire from the Indian police may be as much the result of a spate of very negative P.R. related to the killing of a
lunatic armed with a sidearm about a month before the terrorists attack as it was a lack of training or any negative performance of the Enfield rifle.

I wonder if any of the No.1 rifles were in .410, I've seen pictures of a few in new condition that were not plugged and had a magazine in the well, but I
don't know if those were issue guns or something someone had built. I'm pretty sure a alteration to the magazine would allow it to feed .410.
A guy on another forum ran across an Idian .410 with a .22 insert barrel and the bolt or bolt head to switch to rimfire, it came as a matched set. Could have been a dual use training aid. That would make a great small game combination around here. |

NDBullet500, thanks for the link to Sky News, that was something I had not seen before. In close quarters like shown on the clip, aimed fire doesn't seem
likely against full auto from an AK. The No 1 Enfield was interesting. The only ones that I saw before, that I thought were No 1's, were actually the No 2A
in 308, since they had the more squared off magazines on them.

The sound alone must have been impressive in that hallway, and it would seem a distinct disadvantage to go from sneaking peeks at the local lasses in a train station one moment to full-on combat with a motivated opponent a few seconds later. I was impressed by the way the police stayed in the fight.

As a contractor I've made two trips to Mumbi in the past year. At the International Airport, north of the city center, where I was working the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) along with elements of the Indian Army were responsible for airport and perimeter security. These guys were definitely armed for bear! They were armed with a mix of FN/FAL typed rifles, folding stock AK-47s, and the occasional Sterling sub machinegun. Staying at a hotel 5 minutes from the main terminal security was tight too. All cars were inspected before passing the perimeter wall, to include looking underneath with a mirror and inspecting the boot, then before entering the lobby your luggage was inspected and you passed through a metal detector. What happened in India could still happen anywhere. The Indian People are very gracious and friendly, they have my sincere condolences. |

When I saw the Indian soldiers lined up with the No.4 rifles on the news report on Mumbai I blurted out "Enfields!".My wife looked at me with that
"settle down Beavis" look.

From what I have read on various forums the .410s with magazines are from the UK where rifles were bored out to shotgun bores to reclassify them to less onerous ownership rules. |
