Why does my sight leaf have numbers front and back?

It is so you can tell what the setting is regardless of which way the gun is pointing...

It's so you can set the sights without moving the rifle. Try setting the sights while
in prone position without using the extra markings and you'll see why. ~Hessenfesser |

My 1918 KAR98a has range markings on both sides of the rear sight so I'd imagine the later K98k rifles would have the feature as well.
