I got lucky and was sent one with a cut that runs most of the entire side of the stock. Can it be rubbed down? Filled in? I know it could be sanded, but the cut is deep in a few spots. I will surely live with it as it is, time and hadling will smooth the sharpness, but I am curious to know if there are any remedies that will smooth it out without doing a total refinish. I like the color and finish on the stock as is, I don't really want to change the color. Maybe I cannot do anything, I can live with that. Posts: 500 (12/18/08 09:03 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	I haven't tried it for a cut like that, but I've read that you can fill the cut/blemish with a good C/A glue and buff the surface with 0000 oilled steel wool to blend it in. I've used "Hotstuff" for several years and it's great for cracks. They always seem to blend quite nicely. Eric "We must all hang together, or most assuredly we shall all hang separately." Everything else was VG. I thought about sending it back but it met the deescription for a service grade so I kept it and it turned out to be a great shooter. My solution to the razor cut was a furniture crayon to fill in the cut, they come in different shades from Lowes/Home Depot etc. It covered up the worst with a rub down of paste.

We'd love to see a photo of your repair. I know you can probably still see the cut but it's also probably pretty well disguised by your repair. If you get a moment, can you post up a shot? While I have no intention of telling a cabinet maker his trade, I'm thinking that the crayon isn't all that durable. And Rome, I apologize if this offends you, I'm just thinking that there is a better way. As mentioned earlier, I haven't ever tried using C/A (and the "Hot Stuff" is all I have used) on a cut, however I've repaired a few dozen or so very bad cracks with it and even the very bad cracks will blend (most of the time) to a point where it is very difficult to see. What I would try is to "dam" the crack on each side with several layers of masking tape, fill the resulting void with "Hot Stuff" and let cure for 24/48 hours. Remove the tape (might have to use a solvent) and buff the excess glue with oiled steel wool. Yes, there may be some refinishing work to do, but as the glue is clear it will (IMO) blend better than a single color crayon as well as becoming a permanent part of the stock. It's also a lot more work than the crayon. I've just got this "thing" that drives me to do the best thing, one time, and never have to screw with it again.
