Carl Gustaf Model 1896, Matching Numbered, Treaded Barrel, 1922 Dated... help with value... |
Lead | |
|
I need to sell off a few rifles from my collection to fund a Springfield M1A or to complete my AR-15 stripped lower receiver build into a CMP Match Grade
rifle. What might I expect to get for a 1922 dated Model 1896 rifle that rates a very good to very good plus on the bluing. All of the numbered parts are
matching. I am not sure about the stock being original to the rifle because I have never broken it down. The stock could use a gentle restoration as it does
have some dings, a couple of gouges, as well as a few mars.

Without seeing it in person or detailed pictures it's hard to put a definate price. As a ball park you can say between 250.00 to 350.00 USD. Now if the
rifle was placed on an auction site and you had a couple of motivated buyers wanting it the price could rise...Jim

You know what they say about opinions & everybody has one . Why don't you post it on auction & let it find its own value . You need photos to get a
correct value . Probably should check the wood for matching numbers if you really want to peak the collectors interest . Don't mess with the wood , sell it
like it is . It could run anywhere from $200 to $400 ??????

Don't forget that 1922 is a low production year, so that could be worth a bit of a premium to a knowledgable collector!

You need to tear it down to be sure all 18 numbers match excluding the cleaning rod. This includes-reciever,barrel,bolt body, bolt sleeve, cocking
piece,saftey,fireing pin,trigger guard,floorplate,both barrel bands,rear sight ladder,slider and latch,ejector box(bolt release),stock,handguard and butt
plate.
All matching rifles are the most desirable. 1922 production was about 5200 rifles. All in all, Condition and matching numbere are paramount for a premium price. Watch GB and AA to get a feel for the market. |

I'd say $200.
Put it up on GB with a "buy it now" of $210. I'm sure some lowly soul...cough...cough..will buy it!! It's all a matter of perception after all...or is that perspective...oh, darn it, maybe it's prospect!!??

My first mission, building an AR-15, has been accomplished at the cost of a Smith & Wesson 686-6 P Revolver which should be easier to replace than the
military rifles that I have placed on my cull list.
I have an offer for $350.00 on the Swedish Mauser Model 1896 subject to inspection. I found three digit matching numbers to the receiver on: the bolt handle, bolt shroud, bolt release, cocking piece, safety, floor plate, recoil plate, forward sling swivel band, bayonet lug band, rear sight slider, and latch. I did not find any numbers stamped on the rear sight ladder. Since I do not know how to take the action out of the stock without damaging something I am not going to chance it. I can not locate any numbers on the rear sight ladder, bolt body, and can not recall how to remove the firing pin after the bolt is apart. Maybe I will learn more when the interested party looks over my rifle.

The numbers are on the knob for the bolt body, The rear sight "slider" buttons should show numbers on the underside, and the leaf will have a number
at the base.

Thanks for the clarification as to the location of the numbered parts.
So it looks like as far as I have broken down the rifle that mine seems to be matching. I'm still not sure as to the barrel, hand guard, rifle stock, and the firing pin. Also I can not locate a part number on the trigger guard. The cleaning rod does not match. The offer that I got for my rifle with a FTF meeting slipped away because of a bad Winter snow storm that set upon us.

The triggerguard is numbered on the back , outside of the magazine well . Rare to see a matching cleaning rod . Not an issue to buying a Swedish mauser for
most collectors , as it is acceptable .
