Hi hope all had a good Xmass or what ever is your pleasure. I dont have and realy want a P08, found one and am humblely asking the pistol kings here for some
info on Lugers. What are the ranges on these I know there are many different ones ,this one is iirc a 1917, has ?? org holster, does match from all vis #,
does show some pitting and worn blue, possible damp holster storage. Did ck op in the store and felt ok.Has wood bottom mag but didnt ck if matched. They are
asking 800, which to me seams a little high?? didnt see an import stamp. Bore did look ok I know without seeing it its had to say but a guess is ok. Thanks.
Doug.

Luger values are very subjective based on year made, caliber, condition, matching serial numbers and import stamps (if any), etc.
Without the aid of pictures or a personal inspection, it is very tough to give you a thumbs up or down, but based on your description, the price may be $100 high. $700 for the Luger would be more like a reasonable cost, but the shops are usually going to go for the maximum that they can achieve. I'd recommend a search on the Gunbroker's website looking at Lugers that have sold. See how much they are going for and try to judge the Luger you saw in the shop against the ones that have sold in the auctions. Granted you are going to see some extremes in the auctions. Sometimes, pistols sell for more or less than they are worth, but go by the average for a 1917. Also if you can get pictures, that would further help in evaluating the value of the Luger. A wood bottom on the magazine is correct, but rarely do the serial numbers match and if they did, it would be either the 1 in 1000 or a forgery, a fake. Being able to spot forced matching magazines is somewhat of a science, learned by listening and reading what the experts have to say on how to spot the occasional renumbered magazine. By the way, there are up to 18 locations for the serial numbers to be matching, 17 on a WWI Luger. 1. Barrel 2. Frame 3. Receiver 4. Grips (ambiguous) 5. Trigger 6. Sear bar 7. Firing pin 8. Extractor 9. Magazine 10. Safety bar 11. Side plate 12. Safety lever 13. Breech block 14. Take down lever 15. Hold open latch 16. Rear toggle pin (1933 and later Lugers) 17. Rear toggle link 18. Front toggle link I say the grips serial numbers are ambiguous because some years the grips were serialized and some years they weren't. I'm not enough of a Luger enthusiast to know all of the differences on serializing the grips. ![]() |
