98k Recoil Lug Assembly Loose

Posts: 17 (12/30/08 08:02 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	Tags : None After shooting my 98k the other day I noticed that the recoil lug assembly was loose inside the stock. The action can be pushed forward off of the recoil lug between 1/32~1/16. The hole in the stock where the lug goes is a little over sized, and I'm afraid to shoot it like this. Will a shim between the lug and action fix this? Or should I do something else. Any advice would be appreciated. This is a laminated stock. Best Regards Aganger

Dig out any rotten timber in the area first. Then try to position the stock cross bolt (recoil lug) so it sits against the action lug (ie where it should normally sit) and then fill the gap behind the cross bolt with Acraglass (with all the usual precautions of using the release agent on the metal work). I have a Portuguese Mauser that had rotting (rotten?) timber behind the cross bolt when I got it and did the repair job described above. It used to string the shots vertically (ie badly) before I did this, but it's better now.
