last gasp 2008 MN purchases |

I'm trying to taper off mil-surp purchases for 2009. These Mosins are the last gasp for 2008-recently got them at an auction. Pics are from the auction
site--will post better when I have them in hand.

Well, for your last gasp in 2008, you have done well! I also will be slowing down on purchases in 2009, but I will be enjoying what I have by experiencing some
more range time!

That's a nice NEW, reminds of the one I have that I got back in 2003.
I have also told myself I would dial it way down in 2009, making more "sensible" purchases if I do buy something....i.e. lower receivers for more AR-15 builds, one or two more handguns. I realized I have way too many bolt guns to shoot.....one thing is for sure none of my Mosins are going anywhere, they are the "mainstays" of my collection, along with my various Mausers. I am slowly weeding out the ones I never, ever shoot though......sold my M95M and never missed it a second. Thinking about selling a Jap T38, but I like my T99 too much to sell it. The T38 has survived, whenever I think about selling something that 38 always comes to mind but I never do it. I haven't fired it in 4 years, and even then just 20 rounds of Norma 6.5. Some of them you just can't get rid of, even if you don't like them much. |

well, my last purchase of '08, will also become my first milsurp that I 'receive' in 09
a fellow board member and I have finally connected on a '38 Tula , and the MO went out this morning if she's half as nice as the pix seem to be, she'll be a fine addition to the Russian family already living on one side of the safe and the 'goodies' that are coming w/ her only make the deal a bit sweeter can't wait to take the little honey out for a spin up at the family's range Bob |

Sweet rifles brody729! I too will be lightening up in '09.
My last gasp was an M44 that came home tonight. My favorite gunshop gave me a deal on it. 1948 dated, last year of production with enough cosmolene for three rifles. Stock isn't so nice but all the metal is like new inside and out. I guessed this one correctly. No doubt most people that picked it up and pulled the bolt back went "Eeeeewwwwww!!!" I like it! Pushed out a cosmo "snake" out of the bbl. and saw the reflection of rifling in the bore and it was stamped matching. What tickled me was there were no refurb markings...Not on the stock and none on the metal. Draybo (I'm swearing off Mosin Nagants and won't buy another until NEXT year! *bigsmile*) |

Last gasp was a scrubbed M91-59 put in layaway at the local Dunhams. It is in very nice condition on the exterior. The bore was full of cosmoline but the
lands looked sharp. One of the handguard caps was brass and the other was steel. I also have an FR-8 on layaway but that isn't an MN.

December acquisitions; Three M44's. A 1946 (top) and two 1948's. The blonde stocked ones are the ones that show no refurb marks. The other has been
refurbed but is in overall Excellent + condition.
I dunno, I'm a sucker for the postwar Russian M44's. They're so darn pretty
