silver bear hunting ammo |
Lead | |
|
Hey im gonna use my mosin nagant 91/30 for next years deer season and I bought Silver Bear 203gr SP ammo. Do any of you know how good this stuff is and if I
should even use it for deer next year. So it all comes down to the Wolf, Sellier and Bellot, or the Silver Bear ammo for next years deer season. I would like
to know what you guys think of it all.

I used a wolf 200grSP to take 2 large deer this season. the diffrences between wolf and silver bear(or any of the bears) is the type of case used. the bullet,
primer, powder, and powder wheight are all the same as for S&B ive never shot that so I cannot recommend it. the wolf gave me a 2 inch group at 100 yards,
so i think it is very accurate stuff.

Alright so I guess its basiclly what I can get my hands on then. Im just worried about the quality of the stuff mostly, becasue the silver bear is made in

the quality is excellent, it gave me a ,30 cal entrance hole and a silver dollar exit

Ok then, so I guess it all comes down to the wolf and the winchester. Im leaning more toward the winchester because ive had good luck with it in my shotgun,
even though the winchester isnt made in the US, so ive heard. I guess its whatever shoots best in my 91/30. By the way has anyone used the hotshot ammo for
hunting or target shooting? I bought a box of 20 150gr's. First shot was about 10 inches low so I moved my rear sight to the 200 meter mark and it shot
right where is was aiming, shooting at about 60 yards free standing.

Yeah thats what I was thinking. Im gonna try the winchesters first because they sound like they're pretty good. I need something that expands good and
kills them fast. If they run on the neighbors land they'll end up tagging them.
We only have 20 acres of woods (and about 100 acres of open fields) Last year between me and my dad we got 5 deer in one day. He shot a huge nine point thats hanging on our wall now. He uses a remington 30-06 thats
about 20 years old (and it jams all the time ) Im tryin to talk him into
getting an m91/30, I know that wont jam on him.

Tell Dad to scrub the living crap out of the chamber with bronze brushes. A professional gunsmith who is a friend of mine gets dozens of Remington Jam-o-matics
in each season and most are corrected by cleaning the fouled/rusted chamber. This rifle must be kept clean or it doesn't work.

Well his gun is a remington 742 woodsmaster. After the last time he got shooting (and it jammed) I went home and looked up some stuff about that gun. I found
out that it will start wearing away its self I guess..So basiclly his is past hunting condition. Dont get me wrong, it still shoots good enough to take a deer
but not for when a group of deer comes in and we get shooting at them. I said that he should get an m91/30, a remington model 700, remington model 7600, or
maybe even a marlin model 1895 in 45/70 cal. Im sure like you said cleaning it really well would help a ton. We bought some pin punches so we can take out the
pins to get the trigger group out. That might be dirty because he hasn't cleaned that ever.

SuperMosin wrote:I have shot all three in my Mosin Nagants. The Wolf Gold 180 grain has shot the most accurate out of 3 of them. I have yet to kill anything with the 180 grain Wolf Gold so I can not give an on game report. The 4th Mosin, my M28 Finn shoots everything way high except the 203 grain Silver Bear. It shoots them to point of aim both windage and elevationwise but they aren't exactly the tightest grouping bullets out there. But at ranges out to 150 yards or so they are accurate enough. I was well pleased with their performance on the big hog I killed. He dropped in his tracks and the exit hole was about the size of a quarter. |

Supermosin:
Silver Bear is perfect for deer hunting. I have taken 2 does on a dead run with the ammo. 1 shot one kill. In my hunting group we have three model 44's. Group well and no issues with quality. Silver Bear is all we are shooting in our model 44s, target and hunting. |

Winchester is S&B at a couple more bucks a box. But if it's what you can get, you have no choice. Wolf Gold is Prvi Partizan. Reputation as primo
stuff.

AIM has the best prices on Prvi Partizan I've seen and just about every post I've seen on this maker/ammo is positive.

I haven't tried Silverbear on anything but paper yet out of my M39's. It shot to the same point of aim as the 203 grain Wolf at 100 yards. I have made
a one shot kill with Wolf at about 75 yards. I have also used the S&B 180 grain also a one shot kill. The S&B blew a larger hole than the Wolf. Both
are in my opinion highly effective. I will hopefully get to try the Silverbear in action the fall. Few things Beat Quality Time The Trigger. Jim

The silverbear shoots good but it is slightly corrosive even though it says it isn't. Both S&B and Winchester are boxer primed so you can reload them
if you like. All three group well and have plenty of dropping power.

I've used Hot Shot in several calibers. Accuracy is not bad, really, but found out that the Hot Shot projectiles don't expand very well. Makes them
iffy for hunting.

HotShot shoots very well for me..but I don't trust the expansion that they may have.
