John you and HoosierDaddy have about stripped the gears out of my thought process. My mind is going into overdrive with all these great ideals. The thought of
angling up the base of the racks to lean them into the notches had never occured to me.That is a great ideal! That is what I love about this site, every one is
always so helpful and willing to help (without the big talk about how ignorant you are).I just want to say you are a great bunch of guys and I love reading
everyones posts.I often just read the post without even logging on because of time constrants with my two young boys and my job.But work is slowing down with
less mandatory overtime and maybe I can start joining in more often.
Hey, Millwright39 great pics.Is #4 an Albainian?I have always wanted one of those .They seem very well made and alot heavier than the rest. And I really love
the bolt handle.Thanks guys!!!!!!! ERIC

HoosierDaddy, I am going to steal your "leaner" board idea.
thanks for the pics of the bunker, I think the CMP store is the only other place that I have seen that many Garands in a row. Regards g-man

Nice setup Milwright. Ever use that ole crosscut saw? I used to help an old fella cut locust fence posts with one.
Schmidt Shooter I'm about as far south as you can get and still be in Indiana. |

WOW!! HoosierDaddy, I think I was in your house the other day??,,,,,No, on second thought that was Gander Mt.. I'm seeing
some Great weapons & display ideas. My problem is a lack of wall space, I think I'll swipe your rolling rack idea. Reading about southern Indiana
must have shook-up the 2 brain cells that I have left. I remember as a teenager I spent the summer before the Army, (1965) hauling cut stone out of
Edinger's Quarry in Bedford Indiana back up here to northern Iowa. Great people down your way! Ken

Nice displays, everyone! My winter project was suppose to be building some wall racks. But, I haven't completed my fall project yet, so I guess I better
hold off on starting something new.
You guys have given me some great ideas though. |

Allons, what are the brackets you're using to hold up the rifles?
That's a nice set up you've got there. Also, I needed that Enfield buttstock you turned into an antler plaque!

HI Chuck!, The brackets are 12ga steel 1"x7" looped over & bent back at the ends w/2 holes. I padded them
w/pick-up topper foam tape. 1st. I covered the wall w/3/8" vertical siding, that way the sheetrock screws can get a bite anywhere. The best I could come
up with for handguns is 1/4" copper tube covered w/rubber fuel line & a long deck screw thru the tube or rubber covered single coat hook brackets. -
I gotta agree w/HoosierDaddy, he's got our local gun shops beat hands down. That is one "Outstanding" collection of weapons, (John Garand would
love it!!) Thanks, Ken

That is a great display you have there, Ken. Very well done and the different elements you have included make it even more interesting. If I keep looking at
these fine displays I'm gonna have to build something, dust issue or no dust issue. I'll just have to go on dust patrol periodically. There's just
no comparison between being readily able to see and appreciate the stuff like you fellas are able to do, and keeping things tucked away in safes all the time.
Definately more secure all locked up, but hardly visually appealing.

Eyebolts with a LONG shank embedded into a 2x6 stud with cut resistant-coated cable and padlocks are one viable method of open display.
The cables are a pain to deal with at times, but they work well enough when combined with other layers of security. It won't stop the bad guys, nothing will if they know your layout and want your stuff bad enough, but it's one way to have stuff on display with a reasonable level of security without having them in lockers or safes.

I didn't notice the cable through the triggerguards the first time I looked at your picture, Chuck. And, you are correct about security. I'd like to
make it as difficult for the bad guys as possible, but nothing is totally safe. There has to be a compromise of protection and enjoyment....

Here's my pegs. i believe that's a 30 degree bevel.
![]() ![]() The vertical rack supports are 2x6s w 1 3/4" holes drilled
4" on center & ripped in 2. I rasped & sanded them before gluing on the felt. I mentioned the angled base earlier. The 30-06 cases are fired, and
Had trouble keeping the bullets from falling in the cases. Now I cut dowel rods to support the bullets to the correct OAL.

Hi John, I really like the 30-06 case idea, got a few places I'd like to use it, but I can't tell by the pics, how are you mounting the case to the
wall w/enough strength to hold up a rifle? Great group of weapons! Also, it looks like I know where to go if I ever need to borrow a cup of ammo.
Thanks, Ken

Har, with that many rifles I don't think you even have to lock the cable to the wall.
Hum, how many rifles can you carry in a bundle Mr. Burglar? By the time you struggle to the car with it, what, your on foot? LOL see you at trial! Sometimes there is a certain beauty living out in the toolies, even if nobody ever comes to visit. Of course THAT could just be a consequence of my mug. (see thread on "New Years Resolution." http://parallaxscurioandr...ku.com/topic/30942?page=2 You have totally intimidated me Neil, you too John.

I use a 4" philips driver in a battery drill. I use 3/4" #4 screws because I'm too lazy to drill out the primer holes to accept regular #6drywall
screws. (either that or i just grabbed the wrong bit,I can't remember.) While my son holds the rifle where I want it, I just place the case & drill. I
tried doing them straight & that has resulted in dropped guns, especially pistols, where I used caliber specific cases. There's just no such thing as a
flat wall. For security, I have a separate alarm for the reloading room that is always on, even when I'm home. It has a radio link to the alarm company.
There is a local alarm in the vault itself.

I have an alarm system. I also have good neighbors of which a couple collect guns and know fully what is present. We all have a mutual protection agreement.
I didn't do this to show off I've just had a good run on finding things at the right time at the right price. I've had a lot of help here too. One time Pitbull and PBill were talking about some Korean rifles at a shop in their neck of the woods. Brian posted that one of the rifles was mine the other Bill's. "Huh?" goes me. Ended up with a nice K1A1 and Bill got the K2.

Hey John, if I could just bother you once more. On your rolling wall display,is that a 4x8 sheet of plywood with a 1x4 for the outside?I think I am going to
use a combination of your display and HoosierDaddys and was wanting to get it right on the details of your display.Thank you for your time. ERIC

Hey Eric, glad to help. The walls are 3/4 plywood with 1x6 s on the top & sides. The bottom is a 2x6. The top track is standard barn door track &
hardware. Congratulations on your gun room! You will enjoy.
