Posts: 16 (01/01/09 01:56 AM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	Tags : None among many things I inherited from my grandparents this summer was a very old looking shotgun, and I was right. it was my great grandfathers, so I know this thing is old because my grandfather told me his father had it since before he was born(which was in the 20's) and it has the markings "genuine armory steel"-on top of the barrel "choke bored"-on the side of the barrel "Long Range Winner"-on the side of the reciver. it is a single barrel break open with a lever you push to the side to open and a 31 and 4/5 inch barrel I am looking for the year(s) this gun was made and who made it. i looked on the internet and could only find info on on the "new long range winner" which was made during the 30's and 40's by sears, so that has got me thinking it was a mail order gun from sears or someone anybody know about these things? any info would be appreciated

A pic would likely help here, but not guaranteed. Sears had a bunch of manuf that made arms for them over the many years they offered firearms until about 1980. During the period you believe your shotgun was made, the H&D Folsom Arms Co of NYC offered both imported and domestic shotguns to dozens and dozens of different outfits with their own house brand name. Their domestic manuf was Cresent Firearms of Norwich, CT. I found the same info you did, "Long Range Winner" was a Sears house brand. There was also a "Long Range Wonder". What I can't find, right off is whether H&D Folsom dealt with single barrel shotguns at that time. There were other independent manf like Hopkins and Allen, Iver Johnson and H&R that cranked out bunches of single barrels in that timeframe and any of them could have had a deal with Sears too. Somewhere, not long ago on one of the gun sites someone scanned and had a .PDF file of an old Sears Catalog firearm section. I'll see if I can find it. Also, believe if it was foreign, it would have a foreign proof on it. Look for proof marks on the under side of the bbl and hidden in the receiver.
