That bites. What a way to spend New Years weekend.
I'm glad no one was hurt. Eric

ditto on the fact that everyone's alright, as fires are most unforgiving
material things can always be replaced and hopefully, friends and family will pull them out of this gloom Bob |

I think that most of us fear a fire because if your lucky to escape with your life, it takes your past and everything that was important to you, up to that
day.
Sure, I have my life, and material things can be replaced, but what about us? What about the 30 years of photos, momentoes, and history "mrs in oregon" and I have had together? Camp fire, stove fire good. House fire bad, very, very bad.

We had two fatal fires in my town in Wis. new years eve.One was a total loss house fire with the loss of a life, and a few hours before that , across town ,a
fire in an apartment building with the loss of a life.Very unusual ,as we dont have very many serious fires, let alone with loss of life around here .

As a mortgage company field investigator one of my duties was to oversee the rebuilding of homes when an insurance claim was involved. My involvement was
limited to three inspections. The first monies were paid out after the house was cleared for rebuilding purposes. I just had to find out if all the debris was
removed, that I could find some building materials on site, and I looked for some carpenters driving nails. After this, when repairs were in process, I would
conduct a "draw inspection". My last inspection was done after all of the work had been completed. We did this to ensure that the contractor or
mortgagor did not cut corners or leave the bank in a more at risk position (debt vs property value). The bank also needed to know that the house was not left
unfinished. I got a chance to meet a good number of people as a result of fire damaged homes. It is difficult for a home owner to detach themselves from their
"things".
I often wonder how my life would change under similar misfortune. My collection of firearms would be burned up in a flash, along with photographs, books, and all other sort of "things".
