I got to pick up my big Christmas present today. It's been on layaway at the gun shop for a couple of weeks. It's a Springfield M1903, receiver dates to 1918. It was obviously arsenal re-worked. The barrel is a springfield 2-42 with a 4 groove barrel. It has a straight stock with finger groove, which seems to be at least correct for the rifle. The stock has "P" proofs, and there is a very faint inspector's stamp on the left side in the wrist area. Unfortunately, I can't quite make out the inspector's initials. The rifling is sharp and it has a perfect muzzle. The rear sight is good and tight. It should defnintely be a shooter! I paid $459 and tax. I'm really happy with it. But, now I gotta start saving up again, there was a really nice 1884 trapdoor Springfield at the shop that is calling to me. Here's some pictures...
Interesting handguard repair:
Matt
