Can't believe I've had this for almost a year and just got around to shooting it. Anyhow, I'm impressed. Accurate,
not a bad trigger, and just feels good in my hand. This pistol is going to be a regular on trips to the range. I like it better than either of my CZ52's.

They are great shooters. I enjoy shooting it more so than the Russian and don't feel as guilty about it too.

thanks for making me feel warm and fuzzy about ordering a romo tt-33 from sog. i originally planned to order a second czech vz-52 to help with the 2500 rds of
ammo i have stashed, but sog had jacked the price $30 in the last week...pure profiteering, i suspect.
extras for the czech...hardened firing pin, roller locks, spare magazine and holster...drove the price to the point where the romo with holster and spare mag was comparable...i like the -52, but it's reputedly not as rugged as the russian design. i must've been destined to get the tt-33. budman46 |

budman46 wrote:I have warm fuzzies about the TTs too. But the CZ is actually a much more robust pistol than the TT33. The Czech round was hotter than the Russian round - the CZ-52 was designed to use the Czech M48 submachine gun round which is loaded a 20% hotter than the Soviet. These rounds are rated at 1600 feet per second. But from what I've read it's not safe to shoot the M48 stuff in a TT33. The roller locks make the CZ stronger, so it can handle the hotter round. You basically could shoot anything in a CZ, but shooting M48 in a TT33 is dangerous. I doubt any of us could get the M48 ammo, so none of this comes into play. Of course the CZ price hike is profitering - that's what capitalism is all about. Supply and demand. Milsurps are always a bargin when they first hit the street, but when the supply begins drying up, the prices go up. I have several of each - 3 CZs, and four TTs (Russian, Romanian, Polish and Chinese). I bought the CZs when they were $100 - just too good to pass up. They are accurate, but in my opinion very harsh to shoot. I like the CZ. I love the TTs - more history, more attractive, better trigger, more accurate than the CZ, and much more comfortable to shoot. My Romanian isn't anywhere near as attractive as yours. You did real well. My Russian is in pretty harsh condition, but it is a great shooter - very light trigger, and good groups, despite a rough barrel. The Polish is a great shooter, and in pristine condition. Haven't fired the Chinese (unissued, new in box). 2 pix below (Russian top, Chinese bottom) |

The CZ-52 is not as robust as the TT-33, due to a cutout in the barrel of the CZ for a roller. It weakens the pistol. It is fine for the 7.62x25, but it is not
as strong as the TT-33.
I am firing 9x23 Winchester in a modified TT-33 (just a 9mm Norinco barrel reamed out to chamber the round and a 9mm barrel bushing), which is much more powerful than that Czech ammo. No problems at all with the TT-33. |

Yeah, the ol 'cz-52 is sronger' thing has long ago been basically proven as myth. The cz is a fine pistol, but not one I would shoot a lot. They do
wear out the rollers, the cuttouts in the chamber area should make ANYONE vervous, and the brittle fireing pins make them nickel/dime guns. Myself, I would not
shoot hot ammo out of them. Used to be a guy named 'clark' on a couple of boards who bought a load of each and very scientifically posted results of
shooting overloaded ammo out of each. His results clearly showed that the 52 was weak, especially in the chamber area, and that the 52 blew quite a bit earlier
in his load tests then the tokarev.

I just picked up a Romanian TTC yesterday. I was looking for a vz. 52, but the dealer had just sold his last one. I wanted the TT pistol more but they'd
never had one in stock before...so upon seeing it I immediately reached for my wallet!
It feels better in the hand than it looks like it would, and it is in excellent shape. I'm actually quite eager to take this one out and shoot it. I would like to find a Russian example some day, though they look to be pretty expensive. For those of you who shoot the corrosive surplus ammo - how thoroughly do you clean your TT after shooting? I'm more used to bolt guns so I'm not sure just where the corrosive salts get blown to in a semi-auto weapon. |

Hello. I am new to this forum. I am expecting delivery of a Romanian TTC in a few days. I ordered about 1000 rds of Polish ammunition for it from SOG.
Don't recall corrosive/non-corrosive details. ? I've shot a lot of different handguns - but I have never been very competent with any of them so I am
looking for "do's/don't's" with the Romanian TTC here. Any help will be appreciated. I understand that the pistol will have a safety
installed, due to import regulations. TIA for advice.

All the milsurp 7.62x25 is corrosive. Run a couple of Windex soaked patches through the barrel before you leave the range, and swap the bolt face with a wet
patch. Clean normally when you get home. You'll never have any problems.
