It's pretty satisfying to bring back a sporterized rifle. An added bonus is that because it's already been altered by the previous owner, it gives you some "creative license" to do something cool with it. I saved two Chilean 1912/61's that came in hideous refinished stocks, I accepted the fact that they wouldn't be perfect and cme out with two decent looking 7.62 shooters. One of them is still covered in crappy old cold blue from the last owner, some day I want to break it down and remove that crap and just leave it in the white.

Swept and gound bolt handle to boot. That is nothing but a parts rifle. I would have bought it also for that price but to use as a basis for a custom sporting rifle. Youre happy with the finished product though and that is all that matters because it is your rifle and nobody elses. This is not meant as a slam, my opinon only. Posts: 5263 (01/07/09 10:31 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	Nice rifles, I'm about to build a "quick cheap" Enfield No.4 TT sniper "impression", can't really call it a clone, just a B-Square non gunsmith mount and I need to find a scope that looks somewhat like the original. Like those 03's, the No.4 Enfield was a Bubba in a chopped stock when I bought it, thankfully the barrel was left unhacked and no permanent damage except they cut a dovetail into the receiver for a cheap shotgun slug sight......why on earth someone would choose to do this rather than use the nearly perfect design of the original finely adjustable rear peep ladder is beyond me! The best part of the B-Square mount is that it looks like it will still allow the use of the rear sight in the down position, with the large battle "ghost ring" sight.

Posts: 62 (01/07/09 11:27 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	Well, the only thing I can add is that if you build a sniper rifle clone from a hacked up sporter rifle, you can shoot it without the worry that you might be risking wear and tear on a rare, and very expensive, real sniper rifle. Besides, it's only money and when Bubba's already had his fun with a rifle, you can't really make it any worse. Matt

I don't think if, I was lucky enough to have the several thousand required to buy a genuine Springfield or Enfield sniper rifle I could bring myself to take it to the range and hammer lots of rounds through it. I can feel free to do this with my $100 un-bubba'd No.4. Also why I like Ishapore Enfields, all the fun of shooting a No. 1 without putting the rounds on an increasingly hard to find nice British WWI era No.1 Mk. III. Also why I love repros......they may not be "exacting" to the last Nth detail, but how else would we get a chance to experience what it's like to unleash a Colt Walker or take a shot with a Sharps 45-70 "sharpshooter" rifle with brass scope, without these repros! Love em!

First I see a jeweled bolt, then a GI one. I have an M1903 Mark I I'd like to unBubba-"someday". GI stock and sights, but bolt jeweled, reciever blued, drilled and tapped.

I then shot it with Duracoat (Minus the Locking lugs). With the reciever being drilled, the collectors value dropped big time. So I had some fun and built MY 1903. Filling the holes in the reciever was easy. I took the original scope screws and cut them down, slotted them and countersunk them. Since I was shooting Duracoat, I was able to use JB to cover the screw slots. The stock is a "damaged" stock from Numrich which I stained with Minwax mahogony gel stain. Unlike some people who can afford pristine, still in the box and shot by John Wayne 03's, I can not. So I had a good time restorning my Bubba'd up parts rifle to what I wanted it to be. Sure I put some money into it. But I did all the work and it was worth every busted knuckel.
