Just bought my first #4 mk1 |
Lead | |
|
I picked it up on one the auction sites for a good price. It's a long branch model. Unfortunately it has a sporterized stock, but all other numbers match.
It was made in 1945. can anyone give me anymore info on the long branch rifles?

Your rifle was manufactured at the famous Long Branch Arsenal in Toronto Canada. This arsenal also manufactued the Stens machine gun.
The Enfield's there, were very well made and usually sell for more than English rifles,stateside anyway. My first No.4 was also sporterized , i bought it to use as back up on a big game hunt and was hooked. They are not that hard to put back to original if you ever decide to do so. |

No.4 Mk.1*? Somewhere in my dim memory, IIRC, LB did produce a very few Mk.1s early on. The Savage produced Mk.1s sell for a nice premium.

Number 4 Mk1* by Savage | ||

Ed, what do you consider a "premium" for a Savage-manufactured Enfield? There is one at my local gun shop along with various other manufacturers
Enfields...all are tagged at $399.

$399 is what I might pay for a NIW Fazakerly No.4, Mk. 2. I'd be hard-put to pay that much for a Savage No.4, Mk.1 (certainly never for a Savage Mk.1* -
these are common as ragweed) but if it were in "unissued condition", I'd possibly pay that much because I am nuts for the Savage Mk.1. I'd
not pay $399 for any run-of-the-mill No.4 - way too high! I've never been a fan of the No.4s being brought in by some of the "big name" dealers
(SOG, AIM, etc.) but I'm seeing some very nice, if dirty and lightly rusted imports from them lately, including a very nice '43 Maltby, a favorite of
mine.

Though people certainly are doing their best to get outrageous prices recently.
