sporterizing topics (ex. "how-to sporterize", or "hey, check out my cool sporter") will not be permitted in these fourms.

Linden Article on Converting Mosin-Nagant Rifle |
Lead | |
|
Al Linden wrote an article for the American Rifleman describing a deluxe conversion of an M-N to a sporting rifle. The article appeared in two parts in
December 1927 and Jan 1928 issues. I've tried to find copies of the articles but have been unsuccesful. Does anyone have access to these issues who
would be willing to send me a copy of the article? Or perhaps you could direct me to a source. Thanks
Dick M.

If someone finds this article perhaps they would be kind enough to post scans on this site.

Does the NRA hold old copies and do they sell articles? I'll find out today. I live only a few miles away and am retired - so I could slip by there
during the day. Let's see. Don
Added at 1700/1 Dec 08: Shooter, you must be living right. I called the NRA museum this AM and asked if articles from early Rifleman magazines could be obtained. The young lady said yes, if they can find them. Told her what you are looking for. BINGO: She called me back a little while ago and said she had both parts of the article. She is going to mail them to me and I'll scan and post them here. Probably by Fri of this week they will be up here. Don

Sounds Great! Thanks Don. I didn't try calling NRA, I did an online search unsuccessfully. I look forward to seeing it.

A reminder to our members. This article is of interest due to the author. This thread is not an endorsement of sporterizing functioning milsurp rifles. Lets
not see any postings about how you followed Linden's advice and turned your milsurp Mosin Nagant into a deer rifle.

"....one of the ugliest rifles ever manufactured,..." | ||

Ok we are partly in business. The articles (2 parts) came in today's mail. Ten pages in all and the copy quality is not really great as I guess the
original pages were larger than 8 X11 1/2" copier paper. But most of the article can be read with little difficulty.
I guess I flunked scanning as I cannot get a full page on each scan run. I planned to mail the product received from NRA to RgrNo1Shtr but maybe there is some gracious volunteer who is efficient in the scanning process and has some more serious equipment than I ??? Don't know if you can read it, but the first sentence of the Editor's Note reads as follows: "Though in its as-issued state it is one of the ugliest rifles ever manufactured, the 7.62 mm. Russian Nagant holds unsuspected possibilities for remodeling into an excellent sporting arm." Shooter, if you will PM your addy to me, I'll get these off to you.

so did this article ever get scanned in and in a legible format? I would love to read what they had to say about this some 80 years ago. Thanks.
