I found a site which displays a former snipered M48 with a Bosnian fleur-de-lis on the stock, BTW.

Grafittied Yugoslavian Mausers |

Just wondering if anyone out there owns any Yugo Mausers with obvious grafitti on them. I'm referring to the apparent ethnic and religious carvings,
marks, etc. that have appeared on many weapons from the region since the civil wars of the 1990s. I have a M59 SKS with a crude St. Sava's cross on both
sides of the buttstock, and have seen pics of similar marks on other SKSs and AKs.

There are quite a few. I have a 59/66 with a decorated stock that also has a good bullet or shell frag notch in the butt stock. But I personally don't
have a carved mauser.
You might try the search feature of this forum. Just put in "graffiti" and see what turns up. Hopefully, we'll get some posted here for you.

I started concentrating my collection towards rifles from the former Yugoslavia after I received a carved 59/66 SKS. I have several SKSs and AKs that have
carvings on them. The only Mauser I have that is marked on is a M48B. I really love the history of these rifles that are marked on by the solders who used
them.
Here are the Serbian 4 C,s and another object that I have not researched the meaning of yet.
A set of cross bones.
It also has 2 different names.

Something I find sort of strange. I, too, have seen a Yugo 59/66 SKS with grafitti carved in the stock. It was at a gun show where pristine new in the box
similiar rifles were selling for $149 several years ago, but the seller of this one wanted $350 for it, as he thought the grafitti added to its value. Made me
want to come home and carve up the stocks of the two I just purchased!
But you don't hear much of this stock carving going on with other nations. Maybe Yugoslavia simply didn't care? I suppose it was prohibited with other countries for the soldiers to deface government property and was enforced more. Makes a person wonder at times. Curt |

Most of the grafitti was done by various militia groups. The JNA or other government troops probably did not do too much of this. Some factions were composed
of very loosly disciplined groups, some little less than thugs out to make the most of the opportunities. When I first started to purchase these, often they
could be obtained for considerably less than other nonmarked guns. Now people have discovered them and want them for their history. Serbian marked ones are
the ones I see most. The one I found the hardest to get was a Muslim carved one.

Back in '01 I saw a Yugo k98 rework at a dealer that had CROATIA carved in the stock. The letters were sorta rounded like the comic bubble style script
font. I almost got it, but nabbed a plain stocked one instead. The goofy bubble letters just weren't calling out to me that day.

Thanks for the responses, guys. I'm still looking for some of these in the wild since they don't seem to come up for sale on the auctions. I agree,
the Serbian marked examples seem to be the most prevalent. Here's a link to a thread I started on Gunboards that deals with SKSs and AKs of this variety:

Check out our stickies. One has a piece written by one of our members about his experience as a soldier in the Yugo army in the mid 70s.
