Finally got around to taking some pics of my Rc Duv 42. from J/G. Who has always treated me very well btw. Anyways, I already had a yugo 24/47 and a few other milsurps but this was my first k98 and I was very excited to get it even if it is an RC. Hey alot of ppl have started out with beater cars until they worked their way up to a caddy , why not the same with guns? Will upgrade when budget allows. The rifle is a Duv 42/in the S range assembled by Gustloff. The bore is great and it wasnt peened or stamped with the X. It doesnt look like they went crazy reblueing the rifle. besides for the floorplate and bolt im not sure if the barrel and reciever were reblued or not. Overall im pretty darn happy with what I got with the money paid. The Stock is a Mauser oberndorf , flat buttplate, stamped WaA63 with a mix of old and nazi eagle. Im guessing its either a S42 1947/48 style stock, leaning for 47. original serial is 3119g. Anyone help with the year of this stock? Didnt have to clean off any shellac, just alot of cosmo and dirt. Did some light cleaning and followed up with a coat of BLO. While working on it I totally fell in love with this stock and cant wait to find the right reciever to put in her. Ivan left the original serial , and the waffens but sanded off some other stuff that i cant figure out. dont think it was additional numbers they were sanding. Hope it wasnt a totenkopft that would have been very eeeerie to have but still very interesting. Anyways, I love the stock and think its beautiful even with the russian sander rape.. BTW could not find any H,L,or M markings anywhere. And last since the previous stock was incorrect for the above mentioned rifle I just HAD to buy a cupped butt plated laminate one. Im assuming this stock is a yugo rework due to serial and complete lack of markings. It will be matched with the reciever when I get a new front band. Im kinda worried at the bayo lug, can anyone tell me if this looks correct for this style stock. Would love to hear any feedback , comments , or corrections to what i "think " i know.. Would especially like to know what the markings inside the sling cuttout are.? anyone? c Here's the replacement stock. Just did some light cleaning and didnt put any BLO or tung oil on it. The belt sander job was to replace the old serial with the number of the rifle that was going to resided in that wood. What letter block is your serial number in? Lubeck finished duv's cease in about the "i" block and reappear as Gustloff finished weapons in the "p" block. Since yours is 749 finished you would be looking for a stock with a "c" stamped on the keel and the recoil lug should have a lower case"f" stamped on it. Correct hand guards could have E/18 with a lower case "c". Any bands would have "l" as acceptance marks. Ebay is a good source for k98 wood. There is a fella in Holland that sells Norwegian capture k98 stocks from demilled rifles. I just purchased a bcd stock from him to complete a restoration I have been doing. I think his Ebay user name is mei5. They are not cheap but sure are nice. There are quite a few stock for sale on Gunbroker.com right now. I think the triangular stamp in the sling cutout is a Yugoslavian inspector's mark. The bayonet bar looks ok to me. If you want to sell the old flat buttplate stock, I'm interested. I've got a 42 1940 RC that is stocked in a laminated stock with a cupped buttplate that I'd like to make right (or as "right" as you can make a RC ).
