I recently sold a few items to fund a Spring project. True, It's been a while since I've been on the selling side....but UPS wanted just under $40 to
ship a rifle, and almost $60 for an overnight handgun!

Well, for long guns i like USPS, and you might try Fedex for overnight handguns. Otherwise your stuck with FTF or the buyer pay's actual shipping.
My UPS driver told me yesterday they want to get out of Hazmat shipping completely too, so there goes ammo, powder and primer's. Shipping is a pain, but i find USPS to be the least painful of all, and they never "trash" anything i ship. usrifle |

Cheapdad, I hope Katy is continuing to recover satisfactorily. When I sell on Gunbroker, the buyer pays the actual UPS shipping charge. I've been
shipping rifles for thirteen to twenty dollars depending on weight and distance. My son has a small mail order business he runs out of our home and has UPS
pickup so I piggy back on that even though I have my own UPS account. I've been selling stuff the past couple of weeks in order to thin the herd which has
grown too large and to raise funds since I haven't had any chargeable work in two months. When I've got enough regular work, I can't get involved
in selling on line because it's too distracting.
usrifle, I don't think ammunition falls under the Hazmat categorgy. It would affect powder and primers. You'd think in this poor economy UPS wouldn't adopt an attitude like that and would be looking for all the business it could get. But, it's a large corporation and they often become bureaucratic and senseless. Carl |

Find a local dealer to handle the handgun shipping for you. Pay the local dealer a $10, $15 or $whatever fee to run the pistol through his books. package the
pistol in a USPS flat rate box. The post office provides these boxes free and will ship them to your house at no charge. Buy the shipping online at USPS.com
via click and ship. Schedule the pickup from the dealers address. Flat rate pack shipping will be about $9.35, add $500 insurance shipping and delivery
confirmation shipping will come out to about $17.50. Ihave been doing this and charging a $35 shipping fee on handguns. I actualy make a little money on the
"handling" of the pistol.
For long guns take them to USPS. Be prepared to educate the postal clerks about firearms shipping. Vlad

I thought the Postal Department would not allow shipping handguns thru the U.S. Mail service.

it must be one of those "don't ask, don't tell" kinda thangs
I've never shipped a firearm via USPS; but I have received more than my fair share of 'em,. tho I've always ask the Seller to ship UPS, but that's all I can do is...ask sure wouldn't want to be a part of any interstate fed violations

Well, if their suspicions were ever araised, it would probably put you in big trouble with the feds and also the BATFE. I sure would not want to be involved in
that.

agreed.
that's one reason why I've just about reached the end of my milsurp buying days, via interstate commerce the last USPS 'package' I picked up at the Post Office contained a MN 91/30 it was going to be hard to convince everyone else standing in line that it was curtain rods sent by my favorite aunt so I didn't bother, tho their stares and whispers were hard to ignore Bob |

When I sell something (very rare, just a few recently) I use the USPS, they are quick and not too expensive, even with insurance and delivery confirmation. The
tracking is an issue though....basically you mail it, hope for the best, check the delivery confirmation on line 3 to 5 days later to see if it was actually
delivered (if the buyer doesn't contact you first) and if it is signed for, you're finished.
I've never had anything with insurance/deilvery confirmation disappear or get damaged. I got ripped off one time and learned a $50 lesson in how to deal with internet sales. Of course it was my fault because I didn't specify priority mail & pay for insurance, it wasn't suggested nor was it offered in the initial sale. I still think he pocketed the money for those parts and never sent them. It was the first time I tried to buy & receive anything via USPS from a stranger too. It was an expensive lesson. UPS turned into a trainwreck for someone without an account after 9/11 for just about anything to get picked up on a "one time" basis. I stopped trading ammo for that reason alone. It's 90 miles round trip to the nearest hub, so I don't even fool with trying to get anything out via UPS.

"I thought the Postal Department would not allow shipping handguns thru the U.S. Mail service.
Curt " Dealers can ship handguns through the mail. C&R holders, just like the rest of Americans, can not. That is why you use a local dealer to run it through his books and ship it from his address to the receiveing dealer. Vlad

I hate to keep beating a dead horse, but... a quick check of the 'bound book' tells me that seven different C&R 03 holders, not 01 dealers, have sent me milsurp firearms via USPS since April, 2005 I don't want them sent that way, but once the Seller has my funds AND is still holding my firearm I'd rather not force the issue interestingly enough whenever I mail a package from the local PO I'm always asked those CYA questions by the clerk looks like some folks may be fudging the truth a bit Bob |

Long Rifles only here, no fudging the rules, I get too fidgety about things as it is, let alone lie about shipping "precision metal parts", I
won't fool with trying to ship a handgun, USPS, UPS, Fed-Ex, etc...not worth the hassle.
IMO let an 01 take care of that for you.

It's very simple.
Anyone can ship a long gun via USPS to an ffl holder. The shipper is not required to have an ffl. Pistols can be shipped via USPS 01 dealer to 01 dealer. Vlad
