ammo for M-95s |
Lead | |

I am considering buying an M-95 carbine from Century. I was wondering what the ammunition prospects are. I do reload and know that Lee makes a mold for the
8x56mm. What brass is available and at what cost. Thanks for any info.

I have the very same question. I am going to start reloading and want to load 8x56r also. So , I will second the question: Where can we get brass?

Check with Graff and Sons for new brass,it is periodically available.been a while since I got mine.
The Lee bullet mold works fine. It is also not too difficult to size and fireform 7.62x54R Russian. You will probably have to anneal before fireforming and the neck is a wee bit shorter but it works fine. John

Another option is Buffalo Arms. I have used both companies and have had no problems with either. It seems that the going price is around $0.50 per piece.
Hornady, Norma and Lapau also make loaded ammo for the M95, at a $1.00 or more per round. The brass is reloadable. I've been reloading this cartridge for a few years and it does make owning and shooting the M95 a lot more affordable. Dan |

I was wondering where to get the original ammo for the M95 (8x50r) mine wasn't changed to the 8x56r like most of them were. I would like to shoot it and I
do reload but I can't find any ammo for this thing.

I know of no current commercially available source of this (8x50r Austrian) ammo. Both old Norma and surplus is very scarce collector grade ammo.
The good news is that it is even easier to form this case from the 7.62x54r Russian than it is to do the same for the 8x56r Austrian/Hungarian cartridge. I have not done it yet, but I believe you only need to resize and trim. And of course, load with a proper powder charge, primer, and bullet. The only down side is that dies look expensive. I will let you all know my results after I try this out. |

Good morning, Sander18.
If you reload, you can find a die set and the components for the 8x50R Austrian. Reloading data is also available. Brass is pricey. If you are comfortable with it, you can form brass for this cartridge from 7.62x54R, which is less expensive and more readily available. I've done it and it works well. As far as buying ammo, I have never seen commercial ammo for it, but I have seen military surplus. It pops up on gunbroker now and then at about $3.00 a round. I have a few and I'd be OK with selling you some, maybe 10, with the clips. I have never fired this ammo, so I can't guarantee any results. If you are interested in the ammo or in some info about reloading, let me know and I can point you in the right direction. Dan |

I just ordered brass and bullets from grafs.com. Brass is Privi Partisan and is $55.00 per hundred and they have jacketed .330 hornady bullets for $35 per
hundred.

If you get the brass from Graf's then I suggest you find some cast lead bullets to use. They are much cheaper if ordered in bulk of 250. There are still a
bunch of lead casters around. I know that Gads Custom Bullets does them. Much easier on the shoulder to shoot. Several years ago I got a hundred boxes more or
less of nazi marked surplus on clips at an auction cheap, so I don't reload for mine.

Thanks for all the help, I'll probably try fireforming some of the brass 7.62x54R cartridges I have for my Mosin Nagant's. I don't know if I'll
be shooting this gun that much since it'll be cheaper to shoot the Mosin's but I will get some dies and load for it because if I can't shoot it why
have it. It might be a good reason to get one of the 8x56R M95's.
