My First AR-15 Build is together...AR-15 Design Flaw or Not... |
Lead | |
|
Now that my first AR-15 Rifle is together I have a few problems. The first one is that I can only load one round at a time because I can not locate any
magazines. With a little luck the two 20 round magazines that are on back order with Brownells will show up on my door step sometime next month. The second
issue revolves around a possible AR-15 design flaw unless it is an urban myth. I was told that you can not use a sling as a shooting aide unless you install a
free float hand guard; is this true or false. My last questions is about slings. Is a Vickers Combat
Applications 2 Point Sling a worthy investment, and can you use one in a CMP Match.

If you need mags, drop me an e-mail... there are TONS of USGI Colt mags at a buddy's. i think he wants $25 a pop. Non colt I think are 15. They taught in
basic to use a sling (93). Always shot with one and qualified Expert every time. I still shoot my Compass Lake with a "leather" Turner sling.

As long as you use the sling when you sight it in and keep the tension consistent there should not be a problem.

If you can get them, the HK mags are far more superior to the others, just my $0.02 worth.

That makes some sense about keeping the sling tension consistent but for one hundred dollars it might be worth it to upgrade the rifle. I ordered Brownells
magazines. Right now I would even slap in a bill clinton 5,7, or 10 rounder if I could lay my hands on one. As a very last resort, my friend found a magazine
that has a bullet hole in it. He was watching some police snipers practicing. One of the guys was not having a good day then blamed it on his magazine. When he
finshed shooting he tossing the bullet holed magazine into the trash barrel. I guess things like this can happen even to professionals.
Okay, so what about the types of slings that are approved for CMP shooting matches. Which ones work the best. The Vickers Combat Applications 2 Point Sling looks to be a good choice as far as slings go for every day shooting. Maybe a fella has to be setup with more than one choice depending on what type of situations he may encounter. I am not a big fan of the leather claw and grip military type slings.

In Michigan everyone seems to be selling magazines for twenty to twenty five dollars each, sometimes more . Most of those are 30 round magazines which I am
told are not what you need if you shoot in the matches. There you want to have 20 round magazines. The two that are on back order from Brownells are twenty
five dollars with the shipping.
Not old enough. I am more worried about not having this rifle laying down fire before I celebrate my thirty fifth wedding anniversary next year. |

can get them off to you if your dont find any , just added mine up - if id been with the first till now we would be looking at 36 [ glad im not ]
