I passed on a Ovedelo made 93 dated 1897 with a MM'ed bolt, dirty bore, and generally beat up stock. Metal was a brown patina but not rusted. the Ovedelo
stamp and date are crisp. Stock is matched to the gun and overall it should clean up with some TLC.

Just a tad high, but I think I would have grabbed it at $175

I could dangle a buck fifty in front of them and see if they are interested. I wish it was a German made example, but the 1897 date is intreguing. I wonder
when they started making them in Spain.

I believe it was late 1896 or early 1897 when the Oviedo arsenal geared up and started producing them. That is why I would be tempted to grab it even though
the bolt is mismatched.

Ealiest date observed for an Oviedo Model 1893 is 1896. Whether it was worth $200 depends on condition. If the bore is badly corroded, no. Please see my

Speaking as a collector of early Mausers and Spanish American War arms, I think this rifle is a real find. The number of pre-Spanish war Oviedo 93's that I
have encountered in 20 years can be counted on one hand. I agree with Bob, it's well worth $200. Regarding the "clean up with some TLC", since
we don't know any details about the rifle, a minimalist approach would be best. (Nothing more abrasive than a soft toothbrush, no liquid cleaners) There
are a lot of folks who, in good faith, inflict TLC on old rifles and reduce the rifle's value and historical originality in the process. I've learned
the hard way that it does take much to ruin the stock numbers in an old piece of wood.

I bought a Oviedo 1896 Spanish M-93 rifle back in 2004 for $110 OTD. The S/N is B 3XX I believe it was the first year of production for Oviedo and an early one
at that. It is a MM with a fair bore and has been refurbed at a Spanish arsenal at least once. No rust or pitting with trace evidence of black paint on the
metal work. Bluing is dull but complete with the bolt in the white. Stock is a replacement with a reenforcing bolt through the wrist but no sign of a crack.
Pretty much scratch and ding free. Nice addition to my collection
