A test rifle I believe and have found it to be a great rifle. I want to learn more about it and have desided to join this forum to learn a bit more. I have been told it is a rare rifle and wondered if any one else here has one. I am also looking for some spare magazines and wondered what I should be looking for. Do's magazines for a mark one only fit or any lee enfield mag fit?. I had taken her to a range and have found the rifle to be accurate and a fun rifle to shoot. So much so I am thinking of getting a good example of each model. All I have left to get for my exsisting lee enfield is a 1907 bayonet. Can anyone recomend somewere for a good example?. Many thanks. How to tell a real No.5: No. 5 "Jungle Carbine" Overall length 39-1/2 inches; 20-1/2 inch barrel with flash hider. Rubber buttplate; short fore-end. An honest No. 5 rifle (or "Jungle Carbine") has lightening flutes cut in the barrel knox form and extensive milling done to the receiver to lighten it. (Take the handguard off and look for the barrel flutes.) Also, an honest No. 5 will be electro-engraved "No5MKI" on the left side of the receiver and will not have "No. 4" stamped or engraved anywhere on it. In addition, an honest No. 5 will bear the proper manufacturer's code: "(ROF)F" for Fazakerley or "M47C" for BSA-Shirley. Finally, the barrel band will be only 8 inches in front of the receiver ring--rather than 10-3/4 inches as on a No. 4 rifle. In the 1950s and 1960s, Golden State Arms Co. of Pasadena, California modified quite a few No. 4 rifles by shortening the barrels, adding flash hiders, and shortening the fore-ends. Some were equipped with Fajen or Bishop sporter stocks, as well. These were called various names, such as "No. 4 Jungle Carbine," or "Santa Fe Mountain Carbine," or "Mountain Rifle," but all have "Golden State Arms" and "Santa Fe" roll-stamped on the barrel. Nice aftermarket conversions, but strictly that. Currently, Navy Arms is doing the same thing with No. 4 rifles and selling them as "No. 5 Jungle Carbines." At arm's length they look genuine, but they have standard No. 4 rifle markings and DO NOT have the lightening flutes on the barrel or the lightening cuts on the receiver. A local shop in Clovis nm had it and the seller sold it to me cheap because it was lacking the rear site, however I was able to purchase one for 168 dollars from England. I have been told it is worth a bit more than that now but I do not think I will ever sell it. The serial numbers all match and she is in real good condition. A really great rifle. I was not going to buy the rifle but my wife went back and bought it as a gift as she new I really wanted it. I have been taking it to the range and it shoots really nice. Much more accurate than I thought it would be.

I have one and it's in excellent condition. I bought it several years ago at a local gunshow. It was behind the sellers table and I assumed it was sold. I asked him if it was a MkV he replied " Yes, it's $250 but if you want it I'll take $225." Well, I couldn't get my money out fast enough! The rifles were made to a standard of workmanship not often seen today. They take the same magazine as the MkIII (not No4 mags) so they're available. I had previously owned one that had been HEAVILY sanded. I sold it to a guy at work because I couldn't find replacement wood and it really bothered me that it was messed up. Wish I'd have kept it. He told me the first thig he did was take it to get it drilled and tapped for a scope! Just the thought of that makes me feel sick!
