Never mind. After close magnified inspection I saw that what I thought was ping marks was instead 2 eagles with the numbers 77 and 68 under them.
Sorry! Just wishful thinking I guess.

I was looking at a old rusty bayonet that Ive had about 10 years today. I saw some markings on the metal at the end of the grip, I sanded it down a bit and saw
that these markings are partially pinged out lightning bolt SS marking and a deathhead. I believe it must be the real thing because its in such crappy
condition and you couldn"t even see the markings under the rust. Any Thoughts?

Whatever the markings are (or are not) put the sandpaper down and STEP AWAY from the bayonet....
The way to remove rust and dirt from metal is to use CLP (or Kroil, which is better) and a brass bristle brush and/or bronze wool. |
