I ordered a 1:8" twist barrel. The barrel I received was marked "M1S SS", but no other markings. I have measured the twist using a tight patch on a Dewey cleaning-rod, and I marked off a starting point on the rod, then a mark at 8" from it, and another mark at 9" from it. When I pass the tight patch through, I measure exactly 9" from start to finish of one full revolution. After two days of calling Model-One, I finally got through yesterday afternoon, and the lady on the phone checked with the tech dept., and told me that unless my barrel was marked "1:9", it absolutely HAD to be 1:8". There is not a 1:9 marking, but I checked it again last night, and I still get 1:9", using the rod and the tight patch. Do any of you have experience with Model-One's varmint barrels? Are yours actually marked "1:9" or 1:8" ? Am I measuring this incorrectly? The lady said I could return it for an exchange, but that I would have to pay the shipping both ways. I figure if they sent me the wrong barrel, they should have to pay the shipping both ways. It may cost a few bucks to pay the gunsmith to check it out, but you have legal proof that you did not receive what you ordered if it is wrong. Then they should pay the shipping charges both way, as it has been proven that it was all their fault. Curt

If your shooting 55 grains it may not matter.If your shooting 69-80 grain match ammo it may.What are you using the rifle for?

But the whole idea is that he did not get what he spent his money on. When you want something bad enough, when you send for it, you expect to get that particular item, not any substitute and the idea that the seller is denying anything wrong on their part just does not sit well with most of us. I checked with my local 'smith today. He was very busy and did not have time to check it but he said that the method I described, is the same way he would check it. He also recommended that I check a barrel of known twist and compare. I checked my A2 full-length 20" rifle (which I also got from Model-1), and it measures identically, with a 1:9" reading on my marked rod. The A2-rifle is only offered with a 1:9" twist, so either it is wrong too, or the barrel I just received is wrong. I waited a long time for this kit, and it's frustrating to have it be wrong when I got it. It's even more frustrating trying to get thru to Model-1 on the phone, then be given the "run-a-round" once I get through. I'm thinking that maybe I'll stick with Sherluk from now on... But I would be very unhappy spending my money for something that I special ordered and was assumed to be correct and received something else. The next time you communicate with them, let them know about this web site forum and if they refuse to make good on THEIR mistake, then they will see their sales suffer because of the word being spread about them. Remember the old saying when you are involved with selling to the public. Keep all your customers happy all the time. One unhappy customer will cost you twenty other customers due to word of mouth. I tried calling them all day Wednesday (2/11/09), over 40 times, and could not get through. After about 30 calls on Thursday (2/12/09), I finally got through, and the lady on the phone checked and confirmed that the package had arrived. She said that the "tech dept." would need to look it over, and that they would send a replacement out in a week or so. She could not say if my cost to return the upper would be reimbursed. The first kit was a 20" A2 Standard Rifle. I got the $100 optional RRA 2-stage trigger on both, and they got that right on both kits. The quality of the components is top-notch, and if I had actually ordered a 1:9" barrel, I'd be singing their praises right now. I really don't have a problem with them making a mistake, as long as they are willing to make it right, without additional cost to me, and provide a quick and easy way to do so. Having to find time in my work day to call them 30 or 40 times, trying to get through on the phone just doesn't cut it. I also sent them several faxes and e-mail asking them to call me, of which none have ever been responded to. The first time I finally got through on the phone, I mentioned the difficulty to the "lady", and she told me I could fax them. I told her that I had faxxed them 2 days earlier but never received a call. She said she was sorry. From my perspective, it seems that Model-1 has been blessed in a very poor economy with a huge increase in business. In order to better serve all of the customers that are deluging them with their money, I think that they could afford to add a second phone line, and a person to answer it. ...but maybe I'm an idiot. The "lady" on the phone never gave me her name, or the name of the guy in the tech dept., therefore "he", & "she" seemed better than "unidentified employees within your organization".
