No4 Mk1* Savage Lee Bayonet Question |
Lead | |
|
Got a Century Savage Enfield 2 weeks ago for $179+ shipping. Came to $192 total to my door. Fantastic rifle great wood and strong rifling. However it did not
come with a bayonet. I dont "need" a bayo for it as im not planning on affixing it and charging the enemy, however I really really want one. Ive been
looking on ebay for a savage marked bayo and all I see is the pig sticker type. Is that the only correct type bayo for my savage Lee? Also if anyone has a
Savage bayo they dont need let me know im in hte market for one.

The "spike" bayonet for the No.4 should be cheap - Springfield Sporters and GunParts (Numrich) will have them for a few dollars. The scabbard may be
just slightly more difficult to find. You will find folks hawking these bayonets/scabbards on ebay and other auction places for $ way beyond what they are
worth. There was a time when the spike bayonets were sold in bulk as tent-spikes. There are tens of thousands of them out there. Gun shows may have them as a
staple item for less than $10. The one item I would look for on Ebay is the Enfield cleaning funnel, a funnel of galvanized metal with a flat "side"
and a crooked spout which can be used for just about any rifle needing some boiling water poured down the bore from the breech. There was a gentleman selling
these some time ago - a Canadian as I recall. Nice thing to have for any rifle - used to cost about $25 shipped. Congratulations on having the Savage and,
welcome.

I honestly don't recall the Savage no4, Mk1 rifles ever using anything other than the spike bayonet. I know the later Faz rifles of the No.4, Mk 2 models
often were equipped with the No. 9 blade bayonet, but I think the Savage rifles were all issued with the spike.

Springfield Sporters has the Savage made and marked bayonets (without scabbard) for $3.00 + shipping.
http://www.ssporters.com/parts/enfield4.htm Scabbards show up occasionally at gunshows and on eBay. |
