Another question: new imports? |
Lead | |
|
I recall seeing a few pics awhile ago showing some pics of what were thought to be some rifles ready for export from Serbia to (probably) the USA. I believe
Branko took the pics at the time. Any recent word on any imports of Yugo Mausers back to these shores?
Thanks, Pat |

I haven't heard of anything new for a while. The last batch that I know of that came in was, by best guess, from either Hungary or Romania I think it was.
The last thing Branko told me was they we're down to the sweepings, old barrack arms rooms, small unit stashes, that sort of thing. The golden days are
over.

I think it might dry up for awhile but might come back strong in a few years. If memory serves me correctly there are quite a few mausers locked up in
Bosnian army storage sites. I sure know that during the peacekeeping I was on in Bosnia we had to go to there armories and count all their weapons every so
often to make sure they werent black marketing or other more evil things. Matter of fact thats where I was first introduced to cosmoline. Got it all over my
uniform and then got yelled at for it. lol. Maybe once that part of the region becomes a little more stable and they want to update their army they will be
allowed to send their old rifles to a new home.

"The golden days are over."
Aaarrggghhhh.........Don't say that, please...! You piqued my curiosity by mentioning the small unit stores and barracks rooms. I wonder if they'll yield anything more interesting than the typical and anticipated flavor of M48s? I guess I can always dream of coming across something mis-marked as an M48, but that's actually a M24b or a Chetnik M1924! Hopefully the former Yugoslavian states have some more tucked away for future export to the U.S. It's certainly a good way to generate some hard cash by feeding collectors on foreign shores. Hey Dirtyik1: How long ago were you there? Just wondering if there's any reason to hope that they're still around. Pat |

Makes you wonder just how much the mother country gets for unloading their surplus rifles and ammunition. When you look at some of the offerings that have been
available to us collectors in the past 15 years with some rifles selling retail for less than $75, and everybody handling it has their cut of the pie, from the
importer, to the distributor, to the retailer and the shipping costs involved, it makes me wonder if the country even got ten bucks for one of these milsurp
rifles. And if so, if they sold ten thousand of them, that would only bring them $100,000, which really is not that much money when it comes to an entire
countries budget.
I would think they were mainly glad to get rid of them by selling them off, rather than to continue spending money to store them or having to pay workers to destroy them. Think about it. Curt |

It has been almost 10 yrs since my last tour of Bosnia, about 6 since Kosovo. Though I dont think the time matters much since there is still ongoing
peacekeeping operations there. I honestly cant say if Bosnia has emptied its armories or not. Or if Mr. Branko could tell us. Its something to hold out hope
for but unfortunately as Nuthernug has already said, the golden days are most likely over. Which I truly hate to see because I am coming late to the game. The
only trophy I was allowed to bring home was a Serb hat with a strange looking skull and cross crest that translated to something like " In God We Trust
Free Or Dead" or thats the only way our interpreter knew how to translate into english. I do feel lucky coming to this forum, you guys who are interested
in Balkan history would have loved alot of the conversations I had with the interpreters working for the U.S. most of whom were veterans from the war.
Interesting but off the subject. Excuse me.
But if the stores there are not emptied you might be suprised what will come out of them. I know I handled alof Mausers, and SKS's, even a few crates of Tommie guns. Let us hope against hope. I am more of a 24/27 guy but I found some 48's on J&G sales. They are not in the Curio and Relic section , you actually have to go to Rifles, then Mausers and they are on the bottom of the page. Advertized as in good condition with sanitized recievers for around 179.00. Cant honestly say what condition these are in but I have had very good dealings in the past with the company. Would post a link but dont know if that is allowed in this forum , if you want it but cant find where to look send me a PM and I will get you the link.

I believe Classic Arms still has a batch of Yugo 24/47 rifles which are Samco imports, at least according to their web site.
$ 159 or $169 hand picked. old one |

Thanks guys-
In fact, I was thinking about getting my 'next' M24/47 from either Classic or J&G. Long ago, I bought a fantastic 98/22 from J&G; I think they take the 'hand select' seriously, and I'd trust them to do well again. Thanks for the tip! Best, Pat |

Any history relating to these weapons use or storage is not "off topic" here. Without the history, they're just machines.
Forum related links can also be posted. The only restrictions there are that live auction links may not be posted, and neither can individual WTS. WTT be posted. If somebody is looking for a forum specific item, they can ask here but take the dealings off-forum. Ok? Diplomacy is the art of saying nice doggie until you can find a rock. Will Rogers |

Thanks for the clarification Nug, didnt mean that the history wasnt important, just that my answer was getting away from the subject he had asked. Personally I
am fascinated with the history of these weapons and of the area in which they originated. Very complicated region.
