Folks, this one is mint condition with an early 4 digit serial number on it. It was price way out of my range at $2500. So, just to satisfy my curiosity what is it worth really?

Super nice rifle discovered today.... |
Lead | |

...on one of my extremely rare road trips. My son saw behind the counter what he thought was a shorty M1A but my skilled eyes quickly noted an odd trigger
group/Magazine sticking out from underneath. I asked the guy in the shop to let me see it and he said it was a rare Beretta M14 to which I quickly informed
him it was actually a BM-59.

Hi Bill,
have you any pictures? I'm from Italy and used that rifle when I was a young officer... for us is forbidden to have the military version, but there is a "normal"one called BM62 that is possible to buy and his value is something like 5,000 euros... So 2500 bucks are not so many... Please excuse my english. Regards Gigi |

Price is about right, Bill.
Life is the crummiest book I ever read, there isn't a hook; Just a lot of cheap shots, pictures to shock, and characters an amateur would never dream up... |

I sure wish I had the money Brian. I didn't take any pictures and I haven't been able to locate any exactly like it on the internet so far. She's a
beauty though. If you want to see it I will tell you where it is via email.

I have seen a few Bill, all about that price give or take a couple hundred. Several variations of the same animal to be found.
Some have an E2 type stock, some with the "standard' style. There is even a "folder" version. Pretty cool rifles, but not alot of collectors seem real interested....Kinda like the Beretta M1 Rifles...Neat, but they don't want to pay the price for an oddity that isn't "hot". I know where there is one at the same price here in WA. usrifle |

When any rifle is justifiably priced at $2500, they usually are nice.

They have been $1500-$1800 for a long time. With the present "climate" I suppose we have to expect an upward swing. The guys at Reese Surplus (
remember when Springfield Armory offered them......this is "them") have been a great source for many years. Looks like there's are about $2000 ea
now..... They used to offer the BM59, BM62 (more civilianized) and the full length Garand lookin unit.

Upon looking at that link and some of the parts I'm thinking that rifle is a BM62 since it has the short muzzle cap and no bipod.
Are those any less desirable?

I actually prefer the BM62. The BM59 grenade launcher and grenade sight don't do anything for me.

There's eight of 'em on GB right now.I only see the one, are the others listed differently? Also, the one I found on GB has a different butt pad from the one I saw. The one I saw had a nice contoured smooth rubber butt pad. I sure wish I had an extra $2500.

Welcome Gigi. Are you in Italy? Don't worry about your English it is pretty good. It's a heck of a lot better than our Italian.

I once had a BM62 "clone" built on a H&R M1 Garand receiver. It almost identical to the Beretta, used M14 magazines and even with a two groove
barrel, shot like "a house afire."
Alas, I had an offer I couldn't refuse and sold it. Wished many times I had it back. Eric

Hey Bill, go to semi-auto's and type in "Beretta". I counted 8 of 'em from 1100 bucks up.

I've always thought those were very cool. But, I can't see spending $2500 on an inferior M1A that takes $75 mags.

Good point Bryan. I like the "handyness" of the BM59/62, but it's hard to beat an M1A. Sold that one too, so I'll have to be satisfied with
my STG58.

Hi HoosierDaddy,
yes I'm in Italy and every day on this fantastic forum! Regarding the BM59,it was an "Italian solution to the problem to have an auto-rifle at the lowest cost,so Mr. Salza,an engineer, convert the post war Garand 7,62x51 in the rifle called FAL Beretta Modello 59. Please excuse me,but I'm proud to say that,in my poor opinion, this is the best example of Garand auto conversion:well made, good accuracy(it's a Garand!)heavy enough to control it in auto fire and also nice in the two folding stock version, what else? Italian army use them no more but no rifles on the surplus market in Italy, they consider them too dangerous for civilian use...So thousands of these babies risk the destruction. It's a pity,I'll cheer up with my Mausers. Regards Gigi |
