HoosierDaddy..need Garand advice. |

So here is the skinny. It is a late HRA with a 55 dated LMR barrel. It has a very nice parked finish..some might say.."PURTY." Stock is excellent
with P cartouche. Bore is excellent..but I did not do the specs. It has a Winchester bolt and a couple of other WRA parts. Included in the deal is a box of 200
rounds on clips. It is in a super top secret location and you will wear yourself out calling every gunshop and pawn shop in a 200 mile radius trying to bird
dog this Garand. It Probably is not worth the $750 he is asking anyway. So Boss...what do you think?

Not Neil but hey if you have the cash.......I'd already have it even though I already have a few HRAs.

Thanks..I imagine I will be scolded by Beanstrung for hesitating. This is not a Greek return.

Yeah, sounds like a good deal to me. Did you say you need me to pick it up and "hold" it for you???
Service grade HRAs from CMP are $600 now I think. |

You are getting sleepy...very tired...head is heavy..sleepy..sleepy..buy it..the HRA..she belongs to you...OK I give in. HDaddy, I waited for you to show up in
Ferdinand. I called 411 and they connected me to another residence with the same name as yours...she was very polite but informed me that I had the wrong
Hoosier.

I saw some of those rifles at the last NGD show..Dennis Kroh had a few and they were impressive. Looks like the price has gone down a little.

I'll be at NGD.

Bean, I saw that rifle and have been wishing I could sell a few of my Garands quickly so I could buy one! I posted that link on the Are You Content topic. I
was quite content until I saw that. If business weren't so horrible, I'd order one tomorrow. I can't justify spending a thousand dollars on a gun
right now when survival is at stake.

I saw those on the AIM site as well. I sure do wish I had the extra money for one but I am doing a good job of debt reduction and should be free and clear by
October. Maybe there will still be some around then.

and now..the rest of the story.. | ||

Let's start with the HRA sn#5729121 making it 1955. On the front right leg is #6528291 and an EP'd through the parked finish LEAD 5-66, Letterkenny
Arsenal. The parts are as follows; barrel LMR 7 55 A42 followed by a punch mark over a letter. OP rod is 6535382 SA, FCG is D28290 WRA, milled trigger guard is
C46025 WRA, bolt is D28287-1 WRA, gas plug is HRA, rear sight is DRC, stock is walnut with 2 non circled P cartouches. Parked finish is excellent and
consistent, crown is sharp and tube is excellent. So it seems an original barrel and re-arsenalled during the Viet Nam era? I also got the ammo and have a jar
of vaseline on order if Dr. HDaddy thinks I need it.

This finish is probably silvery in color and there may be remnants of a orange triangle on the bottom of the pistol grip? Had a nice HRA LEAD rebuild but sold
it to a friend many years back...wish I still had it...

Good buy hoss. Do you think its the same rifle Jeremy? Coneten's range may very well extend into your area. The boy does get around.

I have a HRA LEAD rebuild, I think it's dated 6-65 or so. I'll have to pull it out and look. It looks like new. I'll try to get some pictures up.

Sounds like a reasonable deal to me. The CMP wants $595 for a Service Grade and $60 for 192 rounds of HXP ammo, on clips, plus shipping and a 30 to 60 day
wait. Mind you, I think I'd want to know who made the ammo.
Spelling and grammar count!

the headstamp reads at 12 o'clock 60A , at 4 o'clock 57 and at 8 o'clock 30. Any ideas as to manufacturer? I guess the date
is 1957. Well after a search it seems to be Nationalist Chinese made in Taiwan....corrosive.

And not only that, but a lot of the Taiwanese ammo in .30-06 caliber also had oversized primers in it. I know a guy kept pestering me at the range for my fired
ammo, as he shoots a lot of .30-06 and I do not reload. I was more than glad to give it all to him for picking it up off the ground for me. About a month
later, we met at the range again and he was a bit displeased with the fact that every loading attempt he made with standard primers resulted in them falling
out of the primer pockets in the cartridges. I reminded him of what he had to pay for the empty brass after I fired it!

Looks like mine is actually a 3-65 rebuild. I don't think it was issued after it was at LEAD. 5.7 HRA w/ 11-55 HRA barrel. Most of it's bits-n-pieces
are SA though.

Bryan, That is a beauty. JStein came over last night to peddle Girl Scout cookies. I showed him my LEAD HRA..when we removed the wood his jaw dropped. He had
not seen one of these and the condition is like new unissued. No soot..no cosmo..dry and squeaky clean. Evidently these unissued rebuilds are kind of a sleeper
as far as collecting. I don't mind the bits and pieces..it is what it is. Very similar in some respects to a .45 that has been rebuilt at the
arsenal..reparked, mixed bitser, totally functional and collectable in its own right. Do you know the history of your LEAD as far as how it came into civilian
ownership? Do the DCM Garands come with papers like the CMP's?
