I posted up below this post about the dearth of Tung Oil Finishes on the market. It's still true. However I DID FIND A SOURCE.
We've determined that TrueTone T-400 finish is pretty much the equivelent of the Behr product. It's distributed in New England by ACE Hardware Stores.
However, it's distribution is really spotty. For instance, no shops around here carry it so one might believe it's not available.
I just called MasterChem, LLC. It's the manufacturer for TrueTone as well as a number of other finishes. They are STILL MAKING T-400. If, however,
it's not available to you locally, you can order it directly from MasterChem.
Call 1-800-325-3552. Ask for Customer Service. Tell the person who answers you want the TrueTone T400 Tung Oil Finish. Here's the best part. The cost
for a gallon is $28.80 and a quart is $10.44 and that price includes shipping!
So, there is still a finish out there that is balanced, produces a nice sheen, and is tung-oil based and the prices are excellent. I would recommend
that you only purchase it by the quart. Gallons will eventually become comtaminated with air as the year(s) go by. You'll most likely use a quart more
quickly. Even a quart will do a half dozen stocks.
I hope this allys some of our fears. I'm going to leave the post below up for a while. I'm going to reference this post, however, for anyone who
would like to order it. I highly recommend that you do buy a finish rather than have to go through the process of experimentation.
Just part of the great customer service you get here at Parallax! And, no, contrary to popular belief I don't get any kickbacks from any of the
manufactuers or suppliers I recommend.......but darn it I should!
