Anyway, I'm not up on these. The 30 WCF is now the 30.-30. now, right? I read one source that the designator 30-30 was created by Marlin a year after the cartridge was introduced because they didn't want to put the Winchester name on their guns. Izzat right? Can someone direct me to some on line references on these, especially with serial number lists by year?

Can anybody give me any ideas on what he's got with such limited information? How long did they mark them 30 WCF?
I'll post more after I've seen it. I realize there's no way to estimate value range until more info is on it.

UPDATE: I had a look at it now. Serial number is 5818XX. Made in 1911
26" octagon barrel makes this a "rifle" not a saddle gun. . Barrel marked "NICKEL STEEL BARREL ESPECIALLY FOR SMOKELESS POWDER."
Blue 90% stock refinshed, buttstock sloppily.
And is this thing safe to shoot with modern 30-30 loads???
