Any feed back on RC P-38s |

I am considering buying one of the wartime P-38s that are advertised lately for around $500.00 by the major C+R dealers.. I am assuming they are Russian
capture, like the K-98s. Anyone have any comments or advice?

I've got two, and I'm pretty happy. Overall condition is very good - all matching, very little wear. One of the bores is a bit frosty, but it shoots
fine. They appear to have been refinished, but not the crappy stuff you see on the 98 RCs. Good deal for the price, assuming what you are looking at is the
same as what I got - I bought mine in 2001/2 and paid 450 and 500 for an AC 43 and an AC 42. Pix below.

Not that these are not a part of history, but they are considered to be shooters, not collectables.
With that said, if all you want to do is shoot a pistol, there are better made modern arms that are more reliable. If you want to collect P.38s, you would be better off buying a non-import, non refinished, all matching numbers P.38. These collectable P.38s cost more, sometimes much more, but you're paying for the collectable part of it. Again, with all of this being said, I'm considering purchasing one of the Russian refinished P.38s because I believe it is part of the gun's history and I know it will never be as valuable as a original P.38, but it's another variation. ![]() |

I just purchased one and received it yesterday. It's an all matching AC 44 (Walther) with sharp and clear German markings. The import mark is very hard to
find, it's on the bottom of the slide rail. I can find no Russian markings anywhere. It has some pitting on the right side of the slide that was blued over
by the Russians. The bore is excellent with sharp lands and grooves extending to the muzzle. All the edges are still sharp. It looks like it was not used much
before it's capture by the Red Army and subsequent long storage. Only negative on mine so far is that it came with a Walther P1 magazine instead of a
wartime magazine. It is a solid and well built classic pistol design and is comfortable to shoot. It definitely has its own history.

So where's your local watering hole? Around here, people think these things are made of gold and price accordingly!

P 38's are great handguns. PERIOD.
I wish I had gotten a few of the RCs when they were cheaper in the 90's. hsc |
