I recently bought the mortal remains of a M95 8x56R steyr. I did not get any furniture with it so I am making a Manlicher stock for it. So far it looks pretty good. My question is this ,Is it possible to bend the bolt on a straight pull M95 and still get it to operate without a 2x4 club? The rifle would look a lot better if it were possible so I thought I would ask! It is a no numbers match gun so I am not ruining anything that is collectable. Would appreciate any answers pro or con. survivalist

Other than the Navy Lee straight pull, which has an upward movement in the bolt cycle before coming straight back, I can think of no factory rifle, military or civilian that is of a straight pull design that has a turned down bolt handle. The Steyr has a short handle anyway. You will compromise what little leverage you have if you bend the handle. If you get the bolt to work smooth as glass, maybe it will work. But I've handled very few M-95 Straight pulls that were smooth as glass. In short, I myself wouldn't do it, strictly for functional reasons.

Posts: 57 (03/12/09 09:23 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	Mine was very stiff until I disassembled the bolt, cleanded it with brake cleaner to get off the hardened cosmo, and lightly (very) lubed it with a thin coat of good gun grease before reassembly. With the same grease I lubed the race where the lugs rotate to lock up and it made a big difference. It will never be as easy as a turn bolt gun but you can make it satifactory with a bit of attention. Get used to horsing the bolt and you can cycle rounds quite quickly.

From the DST and the shape of the stock and sights I think the work was done in Europe. it had a bent bolt handle. I don't remember any difficulty operating it.
