1911 mag question |
Lead | |
|
A friend of mine gave me 4 mags because they would not "drop out" of his pistol. I have several mags for my 1911 and they all drop out but the 4 he
gave stick in the well of my pistol also. What causes this and are there any fixes? They are surplus mags. Thanks.

Truth is, most "surplus" magazines.....aren't.
They're aftermarket magazines that might have been made by a former government contractor on worn out dies or simply junky magazines made by a commercial manufacturer and sold as "genuine surplus", which is two lies in one. There are variances in pistols, and cheap magazines vary a lot. Combine a slightly tighter magazine well with some cheap over-sized magazines and they stick. Best advice: Buy good name-brand magazines and either use these for practice, toss them, or sell them to the next person who won't understand why they stick. If you insist on trying to use them, check you gun's magazine well to be sure a grip screw or grip screw bushing isn't a little long and is binding the magazines. |

Thanks for the replies. I will probably give them to someone else as I really don't need them, I simply reload the same mag when target shooting anyway. I
don't use the pistol for self-defense or competition.
