gamblegrogan: The single best source of information on Gew 88 bayonets of which I am aware is Paul Scarlata's recent (2007) and well-illustrated book
The German Gew. 88 "Commission" Rrifle. It would be worth your while to buy a copy of this for reference.

The German's used what ever was on hand with Gew 88. The bayonets that fit best are: S1871, S71/84. $150.00 - $300.00. Gotta keep your eyes open.
Next, any of the 88/98 Ersatz bayonets. To be sure they were strictly German use and not the cut down Turkish use ersatz bayonets, blade length must be around 12". Usually can be found at a reasonable price. PFM 65/71, 1871, 1902 will fit also, but will cost in excess of $1000.00. I don't own any of these, lol. Captured bayonets that were first altered, then used with Gew 88: (will cost ya) Italian M1871 Vetterli, French M1866 Chassepot, M1874 Gras, Siamese Knife bayonet. The book which is also good to see photos is German Uniforms And Bayonets 1841-1945, which shows something close to 20 different types fixed on Gew 88 rifles, like S1914, S84/98, S98, S98/05 too. German Regulations stated that the individual soldier had to have a side arm, and they did. As Plevna said, Paul Scarlata's book is a very good reference too. Good luck on your hunt. A good website to see photos of German soldiers armed with Gew 88 rifles and bayonets would be Commission Rifle on multiply.com. http://commissionrifle.multiply.com/
