The guy is asking 250.00 so even if it's fake it's not too bad with the scope and mount and the excellent condition of the rifle. I'd just like to know how to spot the fake if it is.
Thanks

How to spot a fake 91/30 sniper? |
Lead | |
|
guys I have a chance to buy a sniper 91/30 but I'm fairly certain it's one of the put together or rebuilt ones that are floating around. I won't
see it until tomorrow but it's from the late 30's early 40's and it's an Izhevsk not a Tula. I know the Tula's tend to be marked with a C
and a kind of upside down or inverted U but I'm wondering if this was also a standard with the Izhevsk rifles. The scope I'm told looks new so I'm
not sure if someone has come back out with re-pro Pu style scopes. The barrel looks to be an arsenal re-blued and has the turned down bolt handle and the scope
and sniper style removable mount.

Even if it's a fake the scope and mount will bring at least $200.00. One way to tell a real sniper rifle is that it will have another serial number on the
side of the reciever on the left side kind of by the bolt (opposite side of bolt handle). Usually this number will match the serial number on the scope that
was issued with the gun. Even if it's fake I would buy it. Just my 2 cents and i'm sure other members will chime in with more info. Good Luck.

I'd buy it for $250, but it is my understanding that all original snipers were marked/stamped as such. If it doesn't have the "sniper" mark
it is a put-togather.

Just FYI the repro scopes have flat head turret screws and the originals have round heads. For what its worth the ukranian repros are an identical match save
for the screws. Ive rebuilt two original PU scopes with internals from the ukranian scopes and they are identical. $250 is a good deal even if not original.
The bent bolt handle and scope/mount would cost more than that alone. So in essence your getting a rifle for free.

thanks guys. I was thinking it was worth it either way but wasn't sure of the markings...
I'm going to look at it tonight and I will probably buy it anyhow since the scope and mount is worth what he asking. funny how those mosins tend to reproduce. Started off with one from a gun show and now, well they have been busy. It's like having a gun safe full of bunnies lol. |

well guys I bought the sniper tonight. The guy was in a jam and I got it for 200.00. It's an Izhevsk 1937 with a round receiver. It is in great condition
with what looks like a little black paint inside the receiver under and to the side of the bolt but it flakes off easily. It looks like a great rifle thanks
for the advice. The only thing I don't like is the butt plate has been force matched. it has about a 7 digit serial with strikeouts and below it has the
normal 5 digit serial that is on the receiver collar and bolt. It doesn't quite go all the way to the bottom of the stock so it seems short and none of my
others are this way so I will have to look at it. The scope mount is pencil etched to match the rifle and the screws on the scope are flat so at least I know
thats probably a reproductuon but thats fine it's perty all the same.
