I received this K98k Yugo rebuild today. I saw this otherwise ordinary matching Yugo rebuild and had to pick it up because the receiver had not been scrubbed. First one I've seen like that. But I really did not know it if it was out of the ordinary or not until I asked about it on this forum. Kudos to NortherNug and SakoRick for the nudge I needed to go ahead and pick up this rifle. Bore is sharp and bright, so it will get shot. On the pic of the barrel ---- anyone know what that "W" looking mark is ? Just one question though- what makes you think it's Yugoslavian? Maybe I'm wrong (i'm hardly an expert)- but I don't think I see any mark anywhere on the rifle that would indicate its presence in Yugoslavia. Unless perhaps it was directly imported from there... Otherwise it looks like a run-of-the-mill 'Russian capture' K98... Once again- nice rifle though. -Palimino

I've had a number of Yugo K98's in the past and apart from the absent Yugo crest, this rifle is marked exactly like those in respect to the very characteristic numbering of the bolt, side of the receiver, and the stock. Also the "W" prefix on the serial. I also have seen many Russian refurb K98's and they use nothing like this schema. If the Russians added "matching" numbers, they are invariably electro-penciled. Another difference is the serial numbers stamped on the buttstock. The Russians stamped them parallel to the bore, the Yugos stamped them 90 degrees in respect to the bore, just like they stamped the M48's, M48A's, M24/47's, etc. I have been advised from "on high" that this is indeed a K98k rebuilt by the Yugoslavians, post war, and that there are others like it out there in collections. At least one of my K98K Yugo reworks have the W looking barrel mark and V in circle stock mark. The V is likely Cyrillic? One of my Yugo K98Ks looks just like yours but is scrubbed. An un-scrubbed one is a real find! I wonder if these were earlier reworks or done in a different factory? Does your rifle have the second set of Yugo assembly numbers under the bolt handle and on the barrel & receiver under the wood? As far as I know Palimino Stripe, the Yugo reworks are the only K98K Mausers with the receiver serial number on the bolt handle side. Original German serial numbers were on the other side of the receiver.

The Yugo rework K98Ks have the second set of numbers. No one really knows, but most think these numbers may have been used at some stage during the re-work process to keep fitted parts together? I cannot remember for sure, but I thought the 24/47s also have these numbers.

My K98 has serial numbers in the same font as the rifle above. The "assembly numbers" as I call em are also in a similar font to the ones on my 24/47. Were the Yugo rework Serno's sequential? Also anyone have any idea to find out what the original date of manufacture is on a scrubbed K98?

Posts: 1 (04/08/09 02:42 AM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	I saw the nice pictures of your rifle ,Up intill now i have been unable to find one exactly like mine untill now,The only Difference is mine has the Yugo crest on the reciver ring,you all have been talking about,The barrel is marked 8mm 98k german near the muzzeyou can see where they tried to scrub off all the german markings on the side of the reciever ,one is very faintly visable along the wood linejust below the rear site,under the rear site leaf is a german stamp like the ones you have along your barrel below your rear site,the stock and bolt handle are both marked 533 ,and on the bolt handle there is a C before the 533,the mag floor plate is marked 6147,and below it you can make out smaller thin numbering that also matches a number under the site leaf,looks like they tried to scrub that number off the mag floor plate,this rifle is about in as good of shape as i have ever seen and looks to be unfired from storage as I bought it from someone liquidateing there gun collection ,and it was a non fireing collection,as this gun is still full of cosmoline,it also has the cleaning road and bayonet with scabbard,Hopefully the right one for this gun,its a double sided blade no blood groove,it has the same stock markings an a few more numbers here and there etc,it looks as if this rifle was stored so long and somewhere warm as the Cosmoline looks to have melted and run out of the gun to one side resulting in a little darker stock that loosk basted in old cosmo and the other side of the rifle stock a lighter color,Th wood is a darker wood than normal anyway ,looks like teak,i think there were a few of those made for the yugo stocks,there appears to be nothing but storage marks and handleing marks no gouges or deep marks etc,on the reciver bolt side it even has that red looking tint to the metal part just forward of the bolt handle,what is that anyways?,its under my leaf site also,Im in the process of disassembleing this rifle and inspecting it ,So if you all are interested ill post some pics of what i find under the wood etc,smal

Posts: 3 (04/09/09 01:44 AM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	Ok sounds good,I have the Bolt out and Dissassembled now,as everything if still full of cosmo,and im dieing to shoot it at least once or twice ,looks like your Rifles brother,So far there seems to be no wear inside the bolt on the parts or blueing,the fireing pin has a small triangle inside of a circle on the rounded side,on the flat side it has the number 7405 dont know if thats a part number or serial number that looks to have been scrubbed off or replacement part,looks like a w on the flat part of the fireing pin also,There really small and hard to see when inspecting a rifle for the first time i usually go over it really well looking for cracks,markings etc,I dont know if you guy do it,but I found a bright mini led light and a lens I robbed out of a broken down older rear projection tv,actually you get 3 per T.V.And let me tell you if your getting old like I am and the eyes are failing ,you can see about anything with these lenses,and the lenses are durable and will not scratch,I dont know what there made of but its very hard ,So dont pass them old projection T.v.,s by the side of the road as the 3 assemblys unscrew easily and come right out ,and the magnification on these lenses is much better than any Magnifying glass etc,I think the Bolts are black to keep glare off them,so it does not attract attention ,nothing like a nice shiney bolt thats easy to spot when your concealing yourself.They used to have trouble with the Garands front Gas tubes loseing there blueing and becomeing shiney,which also became a hazzard to who ever was holding it,lol.Ill get some pics up as from the looks of your nice 98k,You will like this one also,looks like the stock could maybe be walnut or like a teak.I did read somewhere they had made a few in Teak ,But I read on here thats not the case ,I also saw where a Walnut stock with the small beech handgaurd on top was made and that seems to be what mine looks like.also forward of the flameing crest there is a 2 on the small barrel band and between that and the site is a 13 A with what looks like a steel hardness proof little ping from a punch in the middle of the A and a triangle with a u in the center of it,there is a 72 on top of the bolt release also.A ,w is located stamped into the wood right behind trigger groups screw on the pistol grip side of the stock wood,Anyone know the significance of any of those marks???Smal
