I bought a rifle today which I assume to be a Vz 24, but it doesn't have Vz 24 anywhere. The receiver ring has CS ZAVODY NA, VYROBU ZBRANI, BRNO in an arc. On the left side of the receiver is what looks to be E?lion35, but this is partly stippled/ stamped. The serial number is 1467 N3. The rifle bluing and stock appear to have been redone, but professionally. There is a small lion on the right side of the receiver, and a Z in a circle above the serial number on the floorplate. The bolt handle is straight. The rear sight is marked from 200-2000 meters. There is a lion and a crown on the underside of the bolt handle. All numbers match on the receiver, bolt, floorplate, and stock. Was this a Czech army or an export rifle? Is it from 1935? Thanks, Eric

It appears from Ball's book on Mausers that the crown with a fraktur letter on the bolt handle is a German army acceptance mark. I'm assuming that mine has been redone because I can't imagine a 74 yo milsurp would be in this good of shape, 95+% bluing, a couple of small scratches on stock, and bright and sharp bore. The only real fault is that the buttplate is non-matching and it has small rust spot. I'm Czech and German, now I have one from both countries. Does the style of marking on my receiver ring indicate that the receiver may have been manufactured a good bit prior to 1935? What Mausers, etc. do you have? (My other milsurps are a Garand, Swiss K31, and Russian capture K98k.)

If the acceptance stamp is 1935 it could be an export rifle taken into service. The standing lion was used only on Czech service rifles.
