Swedes are nice. Really nice. The prices sound typical for today, as long as the bores are VG to exc cond. Refinished metal or wood reduce values, how much
depends on quality of work and how bad you want the gun. It's hard to find a bolt-action rifle that shoots better than a Swede and the recoil is mild.
By way of comparison, I bought an M-38 in a cut-down stock with a rusty bore. By the time I paid for an unmolested stockset, an NOS barrel, and an action wrench, I had over $400 in her. But she shoots REALLY NICE. Crunch |

There's no way a '43 m/38 nor a '20 m/96b should "originally" have a Walnut stock. Should be beech and therefore an obvious replacement.
I would not value either that high then.
Are you sure about the matching numbers? The stock and handguard should match as well. metzgeri |

I'm not really any good with my wood. the only thing I can tell apart from is pine. So I maybe wrong on the walnut all the numbers match on the hardware.
Not sure about stock with out taking apart. I don't think that the store will let me do that. They are both Samco imports and they look like the one's
on Empire Arms web site that are listed as having walnut stocks.

Seems a little steep in pricing, but not out of the ballpark, depending on actual condition (especially the bore) and whether or not they speak to you. I
recently paid about that for a '99 Obie M-96 and I'm not sorry, even though most of my Swede's (both M-96 & M-38) were bought for well under
$100 a couple of decades ago!
