Are you sure you are not confusing bandoleers for magazine pouches? The soldiers that were issued the Lee Enfield only had the magazine that came in the rifle.
They were only to remove it to clean it. The rifle was fed with chargers, which came out of the bandoleers already loaded with ammunition.

Look around for an M1 shooter who has excess cloth bandoliers (my Danish 30-06 ammo comes in boxes of 6 bandoliers) and scrounge some if you can. Will hold two
stripper clips easily.

The OP is correct Numrich and Atlanta Cutlery has cataloged these items for sale in the past, they are for garrison use, Commonwealth and British issue.

To clarify. I do mean stripper clip pouches. The site I remember seeing them on had 2 and 3 pouch versions. Each pouch held 2 stripper clips.
I already have some surp .303 in a cloth bandolier, but I am trying to get the issue items with the rifle. I was not aware that they were for garrison use. I am trying to get a mag/clip pouch, cleaning kit, oil bottle, bayonet, scabbard and frog (if availiable), and sling for each of my milsurp rifles. My Mosin and Mauser both have clip pouches. I need one for my #4 and #1, hence why I am looking. Thanks for the help. I will check with Numrich and Atlanta Cutlery. I wonder if any are from the Nepalese cache? |

The British Pattern 1910 and Pattern 1937 field kit had small double ammo pouches for Lee Enfield equipped soldiers. They were made of canvas type material,
and one pouch was set above it's twin. Two double ammo pouches were attached to the belt where the suspenders hooked on, sort of like the way the US M14/16
ammo pouches are arranged on the LBE. When worn, the British solder seemed to have a cluster of four pouches at both belt/suspender connections. These LE
pouches are not to be confused with the larger rectangular BREN gun magazine pouches at attached to the belt at the same location.
I think International Military Antiques (IMA) and Rich Reich might have them in stock.

Eagle7 Thanks for the info. I found some at Numrich they are of the two and three pouch design. The 3 pouch looks new. The 2 pouch they did not have pics
of, but labeled as used, various colors.
IMA, APEX, and Atlanta Cutlery do not have any in stock. I could not find Rich Reich (except for a music) on google. Any hints? The worst thing is, the site I remember looking at had pages of these things not that long ago. Damn brain farts! Anyway, thanks for the help. |

Bambam, you can see Rick Reich's online catalog at http://www.gunboards.com/sites/reichoutfitters/index.html
he's got a lot of British surplus, to include the pattern 1937 double ammo pouches at $8 apiece . I've bought some stuff from him and he's reputable. He does the surplus sales business as a sideline so it may take a week for him to ship merchandise. |

Wow! His sight is awesome. I can live with the long turn around. He has alot of stuff, plus he is very reasonable. I am even indulging un my aircraft fetish. I am ordering a set of the 1937 pattern pouches and web sling in RAF blue. This way I can display it with a #4 and pose it as an RAF arm. Cool! Thanks for the tip. -Bambam

"...bayonet, scabbard and frog..." There were 6 different bayonets for a No. 4 Rifle. Usually the same frog(green or tan heavy canvas webbing.), but
most assuredly a different scabbard for those that had a blade as opposed to the spike. Marstar, here in Canada, wants $16.95Cdn for a spike with a scabbard in
excellent condition.
This site has good pictures of all of them. I need a Mk III to have 'em all. Didn't pay more than $5 for any of 'em. Not recently, of course. Go to gun shows and look around. http://enfieldrifles.profusehost.net/in4.htm The Aussies didn't use the No. 4. They decided that the No. 1 Mk III worked so why spend the money. The downside, now, is that the 1907 pattern 18" bayonet has gotten pricey. Better part of $100 if you can find one in decent condition. There's a shorter blade bayonet for a No. 1 too. Not common though. Mine cost me $50Cdn when I bought it. Nearly had a stroke. Had the money though.
Spelling and grammar count!

T Oheir:
Just a clarification. I already have the bayonets scabbards, and frogs for the #4 and #1. I was just looking for a the web pouches. I will be ordering 4 from Rick Reich, 2 in RAF blue , and 2 in Khaki. I have a #4 mk II Savage spike bayonet with a singer scabbard for my Savage #4. When I got my Lithgow Auzzie it came with a Wilkinson 1907 bayonet and sacabbard. The bayonet was made in 12 of 1917, and re-furbed in 1929. The scabbard is a Cliff Walsall made in 1941 by Lithgow. I will also be getting a RAF blue sling. I will put this on the #4 and show it with the 1937 pouches (RAF Blue) to display as a RAF weapon. Thanks for all of the help. |
