New Find SVT-40 |
Lead | |
|
Went hunting today for a new Gun. Found this $600.00 always wanted one. did I pay to much? No matching numbers all Izhevsk parts. Mag has SA stamp. Shoot 3
rounds with no problems Gunsmith adjusted the the gas pressure for US ammo I shot Bear FMJ which he said would also be good. It's a 1941. I known it's
not a matching gun but these are getting really hard to find. Right or wrong? I was told this is a sniper it has the side rails. Sorry I named the album41
instead of 40

You did good. Doesnt look like a typical rebuild with the bolt in the white and youve got rails on it which some dont have. 600$ is a good price IMHO. Youd pay
more for a arsenal rebuild with fresh bluing or paint and a re-shellacked stock but one like yours are more desirable to me. Good find. Its also not a sniper
if it doesnt have the proper milled locking slot in the top of the reciever with the imspector stamp in it.

Good price these days.
Even being a rebuild, it's well worth several hundred more than you paid. The SA marked mag doesn't belong with the refurbed rifle, but it's a nice bonus anyway Life is the crummiest book I ever read, there isn't a hook; Just a lot of cheap shots, pictures to shock, and characters an amateur would never dream up... |

What makes you think its refurbished?

What makes you think its refurbished? The numbers don't match for one. The gas valve may need to be adjusted whenever you change ammo brands/bullet weights. I've got a link for a replica gas adjustment tool if you want one: Black River Gunsmithing Numrich Arms has repro extra magazines: Numrich Arms SVT magazines There's a guy on another board that had some stainless steel gas tubes. If you shoot corrosive ammo a lot like me they're great. I got to find his address. I've seen slings on ebay and other sites. Have fun. Dave

Note that in un refurbished guns, bolts remain in the white, there is no electropencil marking, serial #'s are stamped, and the stocks tend to lack the glossy shellacked finish found in most reworked Soviet rifles. By way of comparison, here's one of my refurbed rifles-
In the above photo, the bottom three are refurbished; the top is original finish (and Finnish )
Hope that helps. Life is the crummiest book I ever read, there isn't a hook; Just a lot of cheap shots, pictures to shock, and characters an amateur would never dream up... |

Thanks for the information and the Knowledge now I can tell tell easily. Are the refurbs just reworked originals just gone Thu but not as collectible?

The Soviets were fond of arsenal refurbishing of their firearms and captured weapons.
Typical Soviet refurbishment would entail disassembly of a group of rifles (or pistols), rebluing with a dip blue, reassembly with no regard to original matching numbers, electropencilling serial numbers on "new parts" (bolts, bolt carriers, magazines, trigger assemblies, etc), coating the stocks of the rifles with a red colored shellac, and stamping the serial number,a s well as a refurb stamp usually on the receiver and stock of the rifle. The refurb stamp is usually a box with a diagonal line bisecting it into two triangles. Sometimes the stamp isn't there, but the other "features" are. There are no hard & fast rules to Soviet refurbs. For example, typically, the Soviets would mismatch serial numbers, however, I've seen several Soviet capture Lugers that had matching parts. With SKS rifles, when the Soviets would refurbish them, they would typically put them in a laminate stock, blue the bolt, and blue the bayonet. However, I own a refurbed Russian SKS that while in a laminate stock, has a white bolt and bayonet, just like the original unrefurbished guns. Just when you think the Soviets can't throw you a curve, they do. Now, an unrefurbished SVT-40 is worth quite a bit more than a "refurb". While a refurb may bring $800-$1000 at auction in today's market, a Finn capture mis-matched unrefurbished rifle will bring ~$200 more than the refurb, and an all matching, unrefurbished Russian SVT-40 will bring $150-$200 more than the Finn. Unrefurbished Russians are rare, hence they're expensive. They're rare because the Russians loved to refurbish everything (got to keep Ivan's hands busy, no?). They're still collectible, just not as valuable as an unrefurbished example. This rifle comes with a added bonus that you may not be aware of.Go to the range late in the afternoon,or better yet a early sunday morning. The minute you fire
a round you have the absolute attention of the remchester boys on the fireing line. This rifle is gonna roar and throw a little flame. It will scare the
beejesus out of em. This rifle fires a very old,but power full round. But it's a real cool rifle to shoot ! People will see it,and gather round you to check
it out. I predict that this will be your favorite C&R weapon. Lucky you !

Yup. He's right. The SVT-40 sounds a lot meaner than most of the other C&R battle rifles, with the possible exception of the Hakim.
You'll get the "What the heck kind of cannon is that?" comments. Offer to let them try it out. It's bark is worse than its bite Life is the crummiest book I ever read, there isn't a hook; Just a lot of cheap shots, pictures to shock, and characters an amateur would never dream up... |

Alright!!! Is it louder than Mosin M-44? I may just have a way to run everyone off the range and have it for my self.

Probably fairly close. The SVT's have muzzle brakes, and as such, tend to be very loud and obnoxious to your fellow shooters

Nice lol looked at the one pic that appeared to have the bolt in the white but was just a product of the flash. Still a good price though.
