Info is still a bit sketchy but apparently just minutes ago Capt. Richard Phillips went over the side of the lifeboat again and this time the navy was ready.

Yes! Go NAVY! Fox news says that the Navy deep-sixed three of the four pirates and has the fourth in custody. Captain Phillips is reported safe, unharmed and
his family has been notified by Maersk shipping line. If I understand correctly, Captain Phillips went overboard a second time and this time, the NAVY was
ready to act and did so. I do wish that those of us who care about this situation had a front-row seat to the action. There is nothing so American as taking
back one of our own from captivity such as this; Captain Philipps is a hero in the greatest tradition of the Merchant Marine, willing to sacrifice himself for
his crew yet setting up his rescue and the pirates' demise with a rehearsal first attempt "escape" exercise. The U.S. Navy now joins the French
forces in bold initiatives to put these pirates on notice that their lives are forfeit for their actions.

It's about time we had some good news!
Just yesterday some other Captain was being interviewed for his perspective on the situation and the Fox News gal asked him what should be done to free him...to which he answered..."they ought to pay the ransom and get him home to his wife and family of course". I personally am glad it ended the way it did with no ransom paid. I really don't understand the need to pay a ransom when one considers that it does nothing in the long term but encourage more piracy and more hostage taking. Many hostages have already died over the past few years even though ransoms were paid. Refusing to pay ransoms may seem cold or heartless but the alternative is more and more hostage takings with even more chances the hostages will be killed anyway. It's a great thing the Navy did and if the reports hold true, it is a great thing the Captain did to enable the Navy another opportunity to save him.

This is great news ! Captain Phillips is a true hero of the highest order, putting the safety of his crew before his own,and showing true leadership. In short a
clear example of Uncommon Valor. Our country need's a hero like him, during these uncertain times. The Navy did a ok job.The mistake they made was taking
one of the pirates alive. The policy should be NO PRISONERS,NO RANSOM,NO MERCY ! Now the US Criminal Injustice System will try to get envolved with judges and
lawyers {who are basicly pirates themselves}This lucky pirate will then live TO pirate another day !

More details now, lifeboat was under tow from destroyer, SEAL snipers on deck had simultaneous shots on all 3 pirates. 3 head shots.

They should throw the pirate overboard and issue rifles to the crew and allow them to do small arms practice on him as he floats away!

Lives are not "cheap" nor are they "throw aways" but there comes a time when principles override personal safety. Our military forces put themselves in an "unlimited liability" situation every day and some pay the ultimate price. Civilians see themselves in a different situation these days as if because they are non-combatant members of a possibly targeted nationality, they have special immunity from death or injury at the hands of such people as the pirates. Merchant Marines, such as Captain Philipps have a history of being "at willing risk" by profession and national origin. "Life" at any cost has become a standard by which civilized nations are willing to sacrifice additional lives - not a bad thing in and of itself - helpless "lives" just tend to involve the lives of those who are altruistic enough to put theirs on the line.

My dad was a Merchant Marine on one of these in the summer of 1945.
It carried aviation fuel to England just before Japan surrendered. I don't have a picture of the Phantom Hill but this one is just like it.

Becoming a hostage willingly was incredibly brave. However, why aren't American companies at least, allowing their men to protect themselves?
I'm not getting it (ya I know the reasons). A guy on CNN said "this will just make the pirates more aggressive". What? Ya right! What a
pug...this guy is teaching his kids to be subserviant.
