Would it be safe using the round nose in the mag tube. Any spitzer bullets would be single shot only.

Reloading suggestions for a R-35 Carbine |
Lead | |
|
I'm going to start reloading for my R-35 carbine and need a suggestion on powder's, looking at using Hornaday 170grn round nose or cast .323 bullets.
Has anyone tried Trail-Boss with Cast bullets.
Would it be safe using the round nose in the mag tube. Any spitzer bullets would be single shot only. |

Why not consider one of the V-max types. the polymer tips could have all the advantages of a spitzer and none of the risk. Having fired one of these puppies
in the distant past, I recommend light loads ! I fired Balle-D and remember it being brutal, with a capital B.

I am going to say this again and again .... To be LEGALLY safe ... Use only flat-nosed bullets when you are loading rounds in the tubular magazine unless you
have the brass with the annular groove around the primer then you can use pointed bullets as they will sit inside this groove and not set of the primer in
front of it.
Graf (PriviPartizan) brass does not, I repeat DOES NOT have the annular groove around the primer therefore use only flat-nosed bullets or single load the weapon with spitzer bullets. Here is link to some excellent 8x50Rmm loads ... http://www.gunsworld.com/french/bert_leb/lebel_cart_us.html Patrick

The R35 will get your attention with full MilSpec loads, so using cast makes a lot of sense from a variety of perspectives. However I can only second the above
in recommending flat nose bullets. It may only be a 1 in 10,000 chance that something would go wrong.....but if you shoot a lot, the 10,000 creeps up awful
fast. The sensitivity of any given batch of primers is an unknown for the handloader that doesn't have their own test facility.....and of course that
sensitivity increases with heat, such as a few rounds being left in the sun where the actual cartridge temp can quickly reach and even exceed 200 degrees even
on an otherwise mild day.

I missed seeing that link you posted to the reloads Thanks. Look how long 30/30 levers have loaded bullet to primer and I have never heard of any of them going off,in the tube with round nose bullets. But I wont risk Fate with this old "War" horse. I'll stick to single shot mode. |
