Posts: 6 (03/21/09 02:54 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	Tags : None Hi All, Just picked up an Argentine Navy 7.62mm X 51 conversion of the FN-49 from the original 7.65 Argentinean. It is in excellent condition with all matching numbers including the bayonet. After a detailed stripping, it is marked correctly in all the correct places with the appropriate numbers and symbols. As only 1,000 - 2,000 Argy rifles have been imported, this is one of the scarcer mil-surp rifles around, especially in this condition! (Pardon my bragging, please!) The fact that it is the immediate predecessor of the FAL is apparent as the gas system is almost identical and the bolt/bolt carrier group is very similar to the FAL. Between the great condition, matching bayonet and 4 original 20 round magazines - I think I have a keeper.

They had the fixed mags in place, not detachable. Trees do tend to fall over after several hundreds of rounds are placed in the same area of the tree over a period of time. I adapted to setting up the targets on the fallen trunk of the one tree that did that here last year.

Have you shot yours yet? Be sure to make sure it's got the two-piece firing-pin, and that it and the firing-pin channel in the bolt are squeaky-clean and free from any kind of oil or grease. Also, only use military 7.62 NATO ammo, or handloads made with CCI-34 military primers. Commercial .308 ammo, especially Winchester, has very soft primers, and can cause doubling and/or slam-firing in the FN-49. I learned this the hard way. I did have the 2-piece firing-pin, but later found that it was soaked in oil. I was using handloads made with Winchester primers, and it scared the daylights out of me when I first let the bolt loose on the first magazine I shot. The first round slam-fired, then I got several doubles through the rest of the magazine. Cleaning the pin and the channel, leaving them dry, and switching to the military primers fixed the problem. -Bean --------------------------------------------------------------------------- What part of "shall not be infringed" don't you understand? The firing pin was the first thing I checked...two-piece so it's good to go. Firing pin channel clean and dry....firing pin lightly lubed with CLP. I have some good Radway Green for a tryout when I get to the range - will post results when I have them. Can you suggest any spares for the rifle?

This is a common misconception about the rifle - the magazine is not interchangeable with any other rifle. They do look the same but the FN-49 mag is longer front to back and narrows to the front.

Posts: 9 (05/04/09 09:16 AM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	The stocks are essentially the same for all calibers with only minor fitting differences for the recoil lug, safety axis shaft clearance cut,trigger guard inletting and the buttplates. To answer your question: probably but you may have to shave a bit here and there on the stock for proper seating.

I have been looking for some additional magazines for mine.If any one could point me in the right direction I would really appreciate 2 more of those mags.I have heard that you can convert maybe a M 14 magazine to work.Any info like that would be appreciated as well.
