**1933 Mauser Werke AG Oberndorf a/n KAR 98K** |
Lead | |
|
I've got a 1933 Mauser Werke AG Oberndorf a/n KAR 98K I got in trade. Have a friend that is big into Mauser's and told me a little bit about the gun to
his knowledge. Looking to possibly know a little more and possibly put a price on it. Has Mauser crest, Y markings, insignia and serial on stock, and 1933
marking on barrell. All numbers throughout the gun match except the bolt. My friend said that there are no markings on the barrell meaning it entered the
country prior to 1968. Don't know much about these guns and cannot find this model anywhere. Any suggestions or info on history, value, etc. would be a
great help. Thanks!!

I know it's not an Argentinian Police issue. The stocks look similar but there is no spanish markings of Buenos Aires or Police. Did some more searching
and found the D.P.R. stamped on the stock is Deutsch Reitsbahn meaning German Railway. Gil and Vlad I do appreciate the help though!!!!

DRP stands for Duetsch Reich POST, DR stands for Reichbahn.., so your rifle was issued (perhaps, perhaps NOT) to the guys guarding the mail cars on the train.
The "perhaps not" part is that military rifle manufacture was still forbidden in 33/34 by the treaty of Versailles, so all new rifles had to be for non military or commercial use, hence the DR, DRP and other non-military marked rifles coming out of Oberndorf. Many think these were issued to the SA (precursor to the SS) and never went near a train or a mail car.. Some believe they were near trains, but in the form of SS goons herding doomed folks onto train cars for the ride to the camps.... If all the numbers matched and it was cleaned by an expert (without using harsh chemicals, steel wool or any kind of linseed or tung oil) the value would be from $2000 to $3000. With a mismatched bolt (if it's properly cleaned) you can expect value to be about half the above. I've owned a matched example which sold for $2200 a few years ago... I can offer some advice, if you want to hear same, PM me or send me an e-mail. |

Thanks to everybody for the info on this Mauser. It was a great help!!! I recently sold it to a supposed major collector of pre-WWII artifacts. If I have any
further questions on Mauser's down the line I surely know where to find help...THANKS

It is not really a K.98k, which were not manufactured till 1935.
Why do you have ads attached to your posts? Annoying! |
