This is a public range operated by the Menomonie Rifle and Pistol Club and the Dunn County Fish and Game Club. About 35 people showed up and a lot was accomplished. This range is only open when range supervisors are present. I serve in that capacity and am there just about every Thursday morning. You can go to Home and get further information. What shooting ranges are available at that range? I noticed the signs stating the rules and I noticed one rule that was not shown on the sign, but strictly enforced here and that is Absolutely No Handling of Firearms while the range is cold and people are down range. All weapons MUST be benched during that time when the green light is on. We now have electricity, so have installed lights and the green lights in front of each postion indicates the range is cold. Red lights means it is hot and you can fire at will. Curt

The other distances are 100, 200, & 300 yards maximum. Target stands may be set at intermediate distances, too, and we have 25, 50, & 75 yards marked. Carl

Our range here only goes to 200 yards as it is sitting up against a mountain over 6500 feet tall. The elevation at the range is something like 2800 feet, so we have plenty of backstop! Our range has been there since 1922, by the way. Curt

I understand what the rakes and the sausages are for but what purpose do the elevated plywood screens play? The range that I belong to here has a high ridge for a backstop. The lay of your property is much flatter so I suspect your range has to operate slightly differently. Montani Semper Liberi

This sounds like a real nice club to be a member of. Every one spending time,working to make it the best it can be. To properly maintain a range takes both time and money. And to have a range going out to 300 yards ! Lucky you.

Typically getting people to show up to do volunteer work is difficult, so this says something about your range club.

They are of a cavity construction with steel frames and filled with pea gravel and ground up rubber tires. The pea gravel is near the bottom with the rubber up higher if I recall correctly. I was there doing the filling and now I can't remember exactly where we put what. It's a good thing we had a front end loader loaned to us! We're doing everything we can to prevent any rounds from leaving the range. The city of Menomonie is about 2 1/2 miles down range and there are numerous other houses much closer. Part of the work day project was to add more protection along the bottom the blue sky barriers. In spite of range supervisors being present it's taken a few hits durng the first year. If that gets damaged we can replace it while still keeping the main barrier intact. Hoosier Daddy, this is Wisconsin not Indiana. My brother lives about 15 miles south of Indy so I hear about how much warmer it is down there. He'll have mowed his lawn and the grass won't even be green here. HC, we don't allow it to become it become a trash heap!
