Without altering the rifle, how can I set up the rifle for use with a G.I. type sling? If I could add one of these to the front... ...it might be a start. But I'm still not sure what to do about mounting it to the rear without altering the rifle. I want to be able to "convert" my M48A for use with a modern GI cling and a Mojo rear sight. That way, I'm not altering the actual rifle and can "re-convert" back to original at any time. Does anyone have any advice on how to do this?

With the straight bolt handle, slinging them like a modern rifle results in the bolt handle catching on your arm or digging into your side. Curt

Posts: 2 (05/03/09 06:06 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	I'm wanting to use the sling for actually shooting the the rifle, especially from the classic positions (i.e. prone, kneeling, sitting, standing/offhand). I have used several different sling variations for shooting on many different rifles, whether it's tactical type slings, a single loop for "ching sling" type setups, or whatever. Usually, it's not hard to modify either the rifle or the sling to suit my purposes. However, I don't want to modify this M48A by putting sling swivels on the stock because that seems sinful at this point in history. I thought it was for packing the rifle only, and not using the sling as a support while shooting. I find it somewhat strange, but the US is about the only nation I can think of that used the sling as a shooting aid. Most other countries, including those who used Mausers used the slings only as an aid in packing the weapon and never gave any thought to using it as a shooting aid. Curt

Perhaps that explains some of the small width slings I've received, especially the leather ones. It may not be correct to C&R but a common, black nylon "Super Sling" works quite well, particularly for hunting and it's much less expensive than a Turner, nice as they are! You could attach it that way on the front and figure out how to attach the back somehow...... Posts: 11998 (05/06/09 05:07 PM) Forum Site Moderator Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	I don't know how they managed to stuff an AR sling through the slot, but I saw a beautiful M48A at a shop a few weeks ago with an AR sling mounted. They used the metal adjuster as the keeper attachment and looped the sling through it, then back into the stock and over to the left side again.
